. . . Cincinnati Enquirer by Larry Nager ALBUM BRIGHTENS OVER THE RHINE If you're looking for Good Dog Bad Dog, the new Over the Rhine CD, don't check the local record stores. The self-produced disc (the band recently severed its ties with longtime label, IRS) was released Sunday to coincide with what turned out to be the band's rain-out show at Sawyer Point, but has not yet been distributed to retail outlets. For now, the group is selling them for $15 at concerts and through the mail. No one was more disappointed than Linford Detweiler when thunderstorms shut down Sunday's concert. "We got through five songs, and it was sounding so good, " he sighs. "Then the skies opened, and we were deluged." The concert, a makeup date for the band's aborted Jammin on Main appearance, was to be OtR's first big local show as a quintet with new bassist Chris Dahlgren, whose addition to the group frees Mr. Detweiler to concentrate on guitar and keyboards. "I'm beginning to think that there's a fifth-member jinx." Mr. Detweiler says with a laugh. The band is about to start a short tour, and its next scheduled local appearance is an August 2nd concert with the Ass Ponys at Coney Island's Moonlight Gardens, 6201 Kellogg Ave. Showtime is 8pm; doors open at 7. Ticket prices have not been set. |
