CONTENDER STATUS

Cincinnati's Over the Rhine scores heavily with Eve, the group's third disc, thanks to the instant hit "Happy With Myself?", which I find myself singing about every half hour. (Not to mention hear on the radio constantly.)

But the tune is no fluke, and the band ups itself to contender status two songs later with "Should", a wistful, sensual wisp of a song that will no doubt garner this deserving band even more valuable airplay. Lyrics are fragmentary but linger in a provocative, esoteric vein.

Really Eve is one of those artistic sleeper hits of the year, with loads more fine swooping vocals by Karin Bergquist. Recommended, especially to Cranberries fans.
