OVER THE RHINE
EVE

The slow allure and mystery of meeting a new friend but not really knowing... Over the Rhine's Eve is music without fad, trend, gimmickry, or the latest stamped-out factory-approved hook, (and I would think their videos would be without any bikini models or fiery explosions). However Eve is not without style, flair, honesty, or integrity.

Rock-folk, pop ballads, blues and funk are all represented here but only as musical undercurrents and rarely so blatant as to overpower or define. Instead, this is thoughtful, personal, intuitive, and enduring--rife with a stirring internal energy. Of course, it's not fair to compare, but a song is worth a thousand influences, therefore I submit to you that Cocteau Twins, Tori Amos, the Sundays, Billie Holiday and Patsy Cline (reaching deep inside) are but a few shapes of the clouds that will pass overhead as you absorb the breezes of Eve. Karin's vocals stand strong on their own, as does the music, each delivered with a sense of urgency, intention, and purpose. Each occasionally whispers and teases with restraint alternating with abandon.

Gentle, but not laid back. Serene, but powerful. Peaceful, but driven. Eve appears as a wide calm river, but once you wade in you're easily swept away.
