The other Canal Street thread has become a little unwieldy. Anyone have any preferences or ideas for pre-show gatherings? I've already suggested Uno's Chicago Grill, but do we want to do that both nights?

Doors at Canal Street open at 8 on Saturday & 7 on Sunday, which means the lines will start forming at 7 & 6.

Doors at Canal Street open at 8 on Saturday & 7 on Sunday, which means the lines will start forming at 7 & 6.

Lines will start at 5pm. Trust me. Not because I'll be there, but because I used to get there that early... I'd recommend anything but Uno's... but since I'm not meeting y'all for dinner... don't listen to me.

My recommendations for non-chain eating...
THAI 9 - 11 Brown Street (MAP) - Thai & Sushi
SEATTLE EAST - 33 East 1st (MAP) - coffee, sandwiches, wraps, crepes, omelettes
ZOLA - 219 N. Patterson (MAP) - pseudo-european american sit-down place... kind of pretentious for being located in a parking garage... but a kick ass black bean burrito assuages any ill-will... plus it's partially owned by the owner of Seattle East (my fav lunch spot).
DUBLIN PUB - 300 Wayne Ave (MAP) - irish pub... great beer... good food for carnivores. onion rings and veggie boxty for vegetarians.

All way fweakin' better than Uno's. All within walking distance. Zola and Seattle East are the closest to CST... Thai 9 and Seattle East are the best... hence the BOLD.

Okay, lines may start forming at 5, but generally don't become something to be concerned about until about an hour before doors open in my experience.

Do any of those restaurants have the capacity to handle larger groups like ours? (Say 15-20 or so)

I will say the only time I ate at Dublin Pub, I wasn't impressed. I haven't tried the others.

[offtopic]

My friend and I got in line for the U2 show in 2001 at 9:00 AM. There were about 115 people there before us. It was totally worth it though. smile.gif

[/offtopic]

I'd say 90 minutes before doors to be safe, but...figure that given the amount of people that we'll have in our group, assume everything will be about 15-30 minutes behind whatever time we plan...at least for Saturday when everyone's still arriving.

I got excited when I saw the words 'Dublin Pub,' then I realized it would still be in Ohio. laugh.gif

A few websites with menus:

Uno

Zola's

Dublin Pub

Therapy Cafe More of a blurb than a website.

Seattle East closes at 5 on Saturday & isn't open on Sundays.

Zola has capacity. It's huge and generally not busy.
Seattle East has a back room, and is generally not-busy. But I guess it's closed at the times needed.
Dublin Pub is smallish... and yes, not impressed is my general concensus on it, too.
Thai 9 is bigish, but jam packed, especially on a weekend. But it's the best place.

veggie-sushi goes "yum,"

It also has the advantage of being catty-corner from Canal Street. I think we could definitely do that at least one of the nights. Anybody else who's going to be there wanna weigh in? (So to speak...)
Trudes
I'm casting my vote for Zola's , at least for Sunday Dinner.
Saturday we will not be ready in time for dinner, but will happy to meet folks there (or anywhere) if we get there in time. Otherwise, we'll be meeting you in line.
keith from ny
I honestly could care less, I ain't going to Dayton for the food. As long as they're casual, can seat us together and can get us in and out in a reasonable amount of time (especially Saturday), I'm happy.

What y'all should do is find a good filet mignon place and invite Karin & Linford.

That was their rave in all of the interviews when OHIO came out...

Sorry, Trudes. I just went back to Zola's web site & noticed they have no Sunday hours listed. We could still try them for Saturday, since they're a very short walk from CST.

I'm proposing Zola for Saturday and Uno's for Sunday (because so many places seem to be closed on Sunday).

Comments? Objections? Head counts?

Looking at the list in "Looks like canal street..." it seems we're numbering more like 31 and 30 on the lists, respectively (sat. and sun.)

Lists, I may add, that I'm on!!! Totally stoked about that.

And since I know *jack* about anything in Ohio, anything that's cool with Kylie is cool w/ me. smile.gif

Troy

Yes, I can see the names on the lists, but the question is whether all those people are planning on dinner beforehand. I seem to recall Dan saying that he wasn't going to dinner with us, and there may be others who are not as well. I'm starting a list, so I can make reservations ahead if possible. I know others are planning to be there, but since I'm not certain, please add or remove your name from the list as appropriate.

I am decidedly undecided. Not sure just what my days will hold. And I may sacrifice myself for the good of the group and grab a place at the front of the line at CST where y'all can join me after you finish up at Zola's.

What about after the shows? Is there any place to go, anything to do? Being on California time I'll just be waking up when the shows end.
colddeadhands
Depends on when the shows end. They usually push well past midnight... which would mean the cool Oregon District coffee house would be closed.

We could drive out to the country and tip some cows.
