The show tonight was beyond amazing.i live in queens so it was about and hour and a half drive to conneticut.i got there early and my friends and I walked around the incredibly cute town(and obviously rich because the houses were humongous and beautiful).we got to the park around and 5 and they were doing soundcheck.wow.so I got to sit in a park right in front of my favorite band while they were doing soundcheck.i was in awe.i wanted to talk to them so bad but I get way nervous so I just watched.the park didn’t really get crowded till around 7.the show started at like 715 I think?such a beautiful night.i think theres something about being outside that illuminates the musical experience.double goosebumps.i kept thinking to myself I wanna hear changes come soooo bad but I didn’t think theyd play it,butttttttttttttt they did!!during the encore they played it and it was crazy insanely beautiful.i wish for everyone a musical experience like this!!i am so deeply connected to their music and am so inspired and broken and reborn whenever I hear them.makes me wanna write and sing and not give up on who I wanna be.i could’ve sat out there all night and listen to them.so at the end of the show I did get up the guts to talk to them although you probably wouldn’t call it that because I am a blubbering fool.i think I tried to tell Karin how much I loved them but I don’t even know what I said because I was so nervous.what do you even say to someone who has inspired you so much.whos voice and words you listen to everyday sing you through life?there are no words substantial enough I guess that would do my feelings for them justice.so yea…… so much ya wanna say but cant find the words even though theyre are millions racing from your heart .she seemed in a rush and I felt dumb but she was gracious.all in all the best night ive had in a real real reeaaaaaaaal long time.

holy crap last night was awesome. it was close to being the best show i've ever seen (i can say this because i've never been to taft or anything great like that). i brought a new convert and at first she thought i was insane for wanting to get there at 6:30 (if i didn't have to work i'da been there way before then) but we got there right before the major crowd and had awesome seats. jodi admitted i might not be as crazy as she thought (but we all know i really am).

i will admit that my photos came out pretty crappy. that's what i get for forgetting my tripod (and i forgot to eat, so i was extra shaky). here's a link if you wanna check 'em out: otr august 2008

and i would have loved for them to do firefly, especially since dusk hit they were floating all over the place, but it was not to be. oh well - they seemed to like the venue - a beautiful park in the town of ridgefield ct. maybe they'll come back again!

could it have been "my city was gone?" (by the pretenders, a real rocker..."i went back to ohio, but my city was gone...hey - ohhh - ohio")

i just realized i paid full price for a shirt at the concert that is 50% off on their website. not that i really mind, since the show was practically in my backyard and free, but still. what's up with that?

yeah, but you didn't have to pay shipping/handling and the band got the extra $$ instead of the post office + you got "instant gratification" and all that. so you probably just about broke even on the deal. wink.gif

Ridgefield really is a beautiful place (and incidentally the 2nd wealthiest town in CT after Greenwich) and I was real sorry I couldn't go up for the show, especially after I found out Jane was going to be there. I just had too much stuff to catch up with at home after being on musical vacation for five days. My friend Gerry from the PattyNet forum called me around 10:30 last night to tell me what a great show it was! (it was his first time seeing OtR too) Sounds like it was an amazing concert, glad you gals had such a great experience.

Meri, I hope you used a little more punctuation talking to Karin than you did in your post! wink.gif Seriously -- Karin & Linford have read your poems in the orchard book and I think you did a wonderful job there of conveying how you feel about them and their music. They're both very easy to talk to, but I'm in such awe of their artistry myself that I never quite know what to say to them either.

I was wondering who that was who wrote those poems in the orchard book, and now I know.
Nice poems Meri.

and thanks for sharing the photos and the pretty impressive setlist Jane

Just received this email from my best friend in high school, an IBM exec and talented part-time musician who now lives in Ridgefield:

Hi Keith,

I was happily surprised to learn that Over the Rhine was playing at the summer festival of Tuesday night outdoor concerts right here in Ridgefield last night. So I went, and it was wonderful. I managed to say hello to Linford in the break between sets, told him I was a friend of yours, and he said, "oh yeah, Keith, we saw him last night". So just wanted to let you know I finally saw them live, and was joined by the members of my band, and everybody loved it. As far as I'm concerned, Karin can have anybody she wants to back her up. Sorry, Linford.

Lee
