Okay, so i've seen it twice already in the theatre and i'll probably see it again before the week's over! I love love loved this movie! I've never actually seen this on stage, but i certainly want to see it now!
The two hours of the musical seem to fly by with all of the action and singing. I will warn you though, if you haven't seen this movie, that Pierce Brosnan(sp?) is NOT, and i mean NOT a singer. (but he looks so handsome and sexy the whole time that i didn't mind much) His singing in this movie is comically painful. I had to laugh because it was just so horrible...but he's trying so hard. I mean, hell...he'd probably win my heart just on effort alone. lol. The singing of this movie is kinda sub-par for me anyway but the movie/story is so entertaining that you sort of forget about it sometimes.
As far as the rest of the movie goes, Meryl Streep seems awkward at times with forced dancing, (esp. the scene outside the goathouse when she first sees the unexpected guests) and yet it seems appropriate at the same time. She knocked my socks off with the solo "the Winner Takes All" and the cinematography of this song is also fantastic with the blaring sun behind her...supporting her...asserting her power as she belts out the tune. She also made me cry when singing a song about her daughter growing up. I don't remember the name of that one though.
In fact the cinematography of this whole movie really struck me! One of my favorite scenes is at the very end of the movie with all three of the men strategically standing on a pier with the moonlight cascading over the waters and the dark shadowy figure of Donna (Meryl Streep) standing at the end of the pier. It's incredibly beautiful!
The character of Aunt Rosie was hilarious! Every time i thought i was gonna cry, she pulled a subtle slap stick maneuver or made a comment under her breath that made me laugh again! She's wild and funny and real! I loved her character!
I can't wait to own this movie... Anybody else seen it?
