When I did my undergrad stuides, I had to make a presentation on "Microsoft: Boon or Bane?" In doing so, I learned a lot about the company and about Bill Gates, who -- love him or hate him (and I think most hate him because MS was the biggest kid on the block) -- is acknowledged by pretty much everybody regarding his talent, skill and intelligence in accomplishing what he has. I've mentioned here before about my love of standardization in software & technology, but to each his/her own... others have different takes on it. But in any case, I thought you apples might enjoy this article I stumbled across, which is about far more than Microsoft, money or even technology. It's about Bill 2.0, and what comes next for him; and it sheds some interesting light on a very driven, fiercely smart man who is evolving to bigger things, and is likely far from finished yet.
A snippet:
"The classic CEO needs to be right, or rather needs to appear to be right more than he needs to actually be right - and that's not Bill," says his pal Myhrvold. "Lewis and Clark were lost most of the time. If your idea of exploration is to always know where you are and to be inside your zone of competence, you don't do wild new shit. You have to be confused, upset, think you're stupid. If you're not willing to do that, you can't go outside the box."
Enjoy the article.
