The setlist from what I can remember off the top of my head is listed below. The show was FANTASTIC!! I have to say Julee opened the show with an amazing acoustic set, that pretty lady’s sense of timing is incredible. On to OtR though:

They opened with I Don’t Wanna Waste Your Time, which I always love that being an opening number, I’m sure it can get boring for them, but for me it just FITS. The rest of the show was also amazing but rather than give you my blow by blow of each song saying how great they each are, I’ll just leave it at that. The solos by Jake and Mickey on “Roll” have only gotten progressively better, Mickey got quite the crowd reaction for his house pounding drumbeats, being an intimate club I was about 6 feet away from him and could see him in profile and so got a wonderful view of his playing (truly a master of the drum kit). I got a small sense of pride seeing that Karin had set the flowers I’d sent out on her little table, I’ve sent to very very few artists before and this was the first time I saw any sort of appreciation for it, and that felt really good makes me happy to do it again (maybe a bigger bouquet?). The band was in a wonderfully giddy mood and the crowd really got into the show, which I always love seeing. OtR tends to draw a diverse audience and in this college town that was no exception with grey haired men sitting next to high school kids in perfect harmony and enjoying the show for all it was worth. Karin really thwacked into her cookie sheet leaving some major imprints into it grinning the entire time. I loved some of the “oldies” pulled out such as Anything At All, Daydreamer and Cruel and Pretty. All in all a magical night that will get me through till this OtR junkie gets to another show biggrin.gif

Wow, Anything At All. I was just listening to this song today and thinking how it used to be one of my favorites--back in the day. They have such a great back catalog, I wish they would play more songs like this. Thanks, Theatreboi for posting this up! smile.gif

thanks for sharing. sounds like a great show. glad your flowers were front and center.

(you do mean "kiddin'" re: the solos instead of "roll" right?)

Actually both.. if memory serves this morning there were some pretty sweet instrumentals and solos in the set from Roll, TTC, and Kiddin' which made for a great "triage" of songs but yes Mickey's BIG solo was Kiddin' and not during I'm On A Roll so I stand corrected *bows head in slight shame* wink.gif

Oh, it was a great show. I'd say it was even better than the last show they did at the Gravity Lounge! theaterboi01, were you on the front row, right side? I was 2nd row on the right, 2nd seat in. I think I saw you. Nice flowers, btw. smile.gif I hadn't ever heard "Professional Daydreamer" live, so that was a treat. Lots of energy, and Juicy did a great job with the sound.
Kirk
Yeah, great show. I was there with my wife (more unusual than you might think- she's a pretty obstinate non-fan- key word="pretty" wink.gif) and some other friends. We were four rows back on the left, a little too directly in line with that speaker for my comfort- the mix was great, but too loud, especially the first few songs. It would have been nice to meet you other apples, but at least we got to enjoy your flowers, theaterboi. smile.gif And good memory with the setlist. The only one you missed (per K's sheet) was "Nothing Is Innocent" after "Roll", and that "Desperate" was after "Anything At All".

"Motherless" was new to me (from them), and I wasn't sure what to make of it. It began with the first verse of the spiritual "Motherless Child", but after that it was unfamiliar (and I'm not remembering the words just now). Is this their own composition incorporating the spiritual, or just their adaptation of it? Regardless, it was beautiful.
Josh
Ahaha.. I'm going to kill you for those flowers. They were directly in front of where I was sitting and my camera kept trying to focus on them instead of the band laugh.gif

My second Over the Rhine show.. and it was nothing short of amazing, of course biggrin.gif Mickey's drum solo was great. My dad was raving about it almost the entire ride home biggrin.gif

Julie Lee was good too... I'd never heard her/heard of her before, so I got her '07 CD. Haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

My first show at the Gravity Lounge. I really liked it, it was nice and small and personal. I was on the front row, right side, three seats over (moved from the 4th row left side after Julie's opening because my camera was really struggling to get anything from that far back --- no I wasn't running away from you and your wife Kirk laugh.gif ) -- being that close to the band was just amazing. I was probably 5ish feet from Karin, so I could easily see all of her varied expressions -- boy does she get into songs! I almost regret paying $5 for a cookie and tea, but they were both great tongue.gif

It was loud, but uh, I was on the front row.. so I can't really complain tongue.gif

I've never heard Motherless at all.. I was trying to figure out what it was, but I don't think they said anything about it.

I was so happy that they played The Trumpet Child... my favorite off the album. That song.. mm. Gravity Lounge's writeup that mentioned something mystical about their shows is spot-on.

I talked to Juicy afterward and was surprised he remembered me from the harrisonburg show.. I don't know how he does it tongue.gif

I talked to Mickey afterward and he commented on my shirt biggrin.gif

I took a bunch of (probably too many tongue.gif) pictures, that I'm uploading now. They'll be here when they're done: http://picasaweb.google.com/joshpowell/Ove...avityLounge6308 (two at the beginning are just me (and my dad) goofing around because we got there an hour before the doors opened, so we just walked around the pedestrian mall)

I don't have a good lens for low-light pictures, so a lot of them are blurry sad.gif I'm going to invest in one soon I think. They're all taken at ISO 1600 (hence the noise) with the aperture wide open. The stage was kinda cluttered, too.

Hunter, first off, welcome to the Orchard, that said you would have to be the guy sitting next to the girl on my right (I was in the yellow/orange OtR shirt) I loved my view right in front of Mickey with a clear path to Karin, the show did have a lot of high energy songs, which was a big difference from my last live OtR show, and I liked that feeling a lot, loved the slow deep grooves as well though.

Kirk, yeah Motherless has been a new cover added which I LOVE, I'm only familiar with the Sweetwater version myself, so the lyrics were right on what I remember a different arrangement to be sure, and repeated verses but the same lyrics nonetheless.

Josh, you were pretty much right in front of me for the show, I'm checking out the pics now, my camera was so bad I gave up completely and just stuck to storing away the show for future memories biggrin.gif A guy actually commented about you while we were getting autographs from the band that he was shocked so many younger people would be drawn to "this kind of music" so kudos (loving the pics THANKS!!)

All in all a great night, and a great venue, nothing we dont' expect from our band. Oh and woo hoo for me remembering so much of the setlist with my short term memory LOL.

they covered "motherless" for the first time @ the bomhard show here in louisville (2.23). and yes...it is beautiful.

it is an old spirtitual, the earliest record i can find of it online is;
QUOTE
"SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE A MOTHERLESS CHILD"
---------------------------------------------------------
from « American Negro Spirituals»
by J. W. Johnson, J. R. Johnson, 1926

there are many, many different variations/lyrics and versions of it have been covered by everyone from billie holiday to van morrison to (possibly, the most famous version) richie havens opening of woodstock.

i'll try to transcribe the lyrics that they are using from a recording i have of it if there is any interest.

Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
A long way from home

<band joins in>
Sometimes I wish I could fly like a bird up in the sky
Sometimes I wish I could fly like a bird up in the sky
Sometimes I wish I could fly like a bird up in the sky
But I'm a long way from home

Sometimes I feel like a change is gonna come
Sometimes I feel like a change oh, oh, ohhhh
Sometimes I feel like a change is gonna come
But we're a long way from home

Hah, Josh, that would have been you right in front of me. smile.gif Great pictures, and way to document the set list on your iPod as you went. smile.gif

EDIT: Wow, so you're the one that put together the iTunes Art Grabber? Well done, sir. Worked well in it's day. Funny how small a world it really is.

Oh, here are my pictures from the show; I haven't gotten a chance to process them yet, so they're somewhat dark, but I got some good shots in. smile.gif

Sweet a little dark, but I'm amazed at how clear, you must have a really good camera there Hunter. Thanks for posting the link to the pics!!

Thanks. smile.gif It's a Canon SD700 IS - point and shoot, not a SLR, but I've managed to get some great pictures out of it.
