When the new BSG came out as a mini-series--I had sorta liked it---but when it became a regular series---I came to like it a great deal--but was not so crazy about it when they had the season that most of the people were on a planet they called "New Caprica."
As the series winds down---I have come to like this show a great deal and now place it at the top of my all time best television programs of all time including such milestone shows as M*A*S*H, All in the Family, Hill Street Blues, Homicide: Life on the Street, The Sopranos and others.
It is almost too bad that BSG is a science ficton program--because for that fact alone in many people's minds makes it hardly worthy of consideration as being good.
The show has garned many awards including a Peabody-and an EMMY for a techincal aspect even though I think it needs to be nominated for things like acting, directing, and screen writing--and to win in all of those categories.
It is interesting how they are winding things down and I think I am beginning to see how the show is going to end, with remnants of both the humans and human-like cylons coming together and living in peace--or relatively so on a little planet called "Earth" so by the things they are winding up---we are all part humans and cylons.
The real interesting part of this program--and like much of fiction dating at least back to Shakespeare---what takes place in the story serves as a way to look at what is going on in the contemporary world in an oblique manner such that it can be commented upon without raising too many hackles by those who run things and don't look so good in the process--in the case of the new BSG--it does look at and comment on what our leaders and government are doing---and it also takes a good hard look at how "we the people" have responded to our current situation as well.
It could be that this is one reason that some don't like this show----that it hits too close to home--
As dark as this show has been---I sorta hope that it ends on at least a somewhat positive and optimistic note---even though--I could be wrong on that.
