Today is the first day of the year-long online benefit for Katie Reider at http://www.500Kin365.org/

============================================================================
From the website:
"Just as she was reaching the peak of her career in January of 2006 singer songwriter Katie Reider developed a tumor in her upper left jaw that progressed into her sinus, skull base and left eye orbit. Over the course of one year, this rare tumor has taken away her sight in one eye, her voice and most importantly, her ability to perform.

500Kin365.org was created with the help of Katie Reider's loyal fans to reconnect Katie to her audience while she undergoes treatment.

Start listening to her songs by downloading katie's Voice for $1.00. Help us continue to spread Katie Reider's music over the next year by linking ONE more to 500Kin365.org.

DOWNLOAD 'katie's Voice' FOR $1. start listening in minutes.
'katie's Voice' is a digital compilation of 9 original songs written and performed by singer songwriter Katie Reider
over the last 10 years. Download 'katie's Voice' for a $1.00 donation to her cause.

100% of the proceeds go to Katie Reider's 365-Day Web Based Benefit Fund to help support Katie and her family with
the expenses that have accumulated, because of Katie's Health condition over the last two years. "

Katie was the opening act for Over the Rhine at the Ava's Hope Benefit in 2006.

For those of us fortunate enough to see her perform , she is greatly missed from the Cincinnati music scene.

Please check out the site and spread the word.

thanks dave. while i don't know katie well, i was fortunate enough to meet and talk to her quite a few times, she is an extremely sweet, talented, giving and gifted person. "good peeps" as karin might say.

i was fortunate to see her and her band several times, including the "ava's" show you mentioned and just before OtR (and the torrential downpour) @ taste of cincinnati, which unknowingly at the time, turned out to be her last show.

such a sweet person and a horrible thing. my best to her and her family.

Thanks for the site Dave. I'm downloading right now. I hope she gets better soon. And all the best to you too. You're both in my thoughts and prayers.

I was trying to figure out if I had seen her perform before. I knew I had but could not place where. Thanks for the reminder Bill.

Thanks for posting this, Dave. I had tried to start a thread about this a couple of times this morning, but found it a bit difficult. I got to know Katie and her band starting in 2006 and recorded them numerous times. She is such a nice person, talented songwriter, and great performer. Even at my rather removed distance, it's been a very difficult thing to see her go through this, especially after she lost her mother to cancer last year. I know many of us on this board are fans and that a number of us, at least, know her personally (some from a very early age!), so I knew this would be something the OtR community would want to get behind.

This is an interesting and innovative project. Lauren, the project coordinator, has worked very hard to put this all together. I've been somewhat involved in it in several regards, but hadn't seen/heard the final version of much of this until this morning. I hope everyone will consider checking out the site and making the very meager donation. The burden (financial and otherwise) that this has placed on Katie and her family has to be enormous, and this is an easy way to make a positive difference. Your kind thoughts and prayers for them couldn't hurt, either smile.gif
