Maybe it was Kent who mentioned her opening at a show he saw and then someone else mentioned her in another setting, so when I saw her CD $6.99 I couldn't stop myself. WOW! I love this chick's voice! The CD may not be the best CD you hear this year, but it's worth every penny you spend on it.



There's a little bit of Dusty Springfield or maybe Morcheeba -funk +soul. Not quite an English Patsy Cline but certainly headed that direction. It's not quite as smooth as Norah Jones' debut, but it's got this groovy 50's soul thing happening, but it's not a soul CD. Maybe an early Diana Ross without the supremes. I have to admit I really dig the spots where she brings it down to almost a whisper and then her voice cracks... Oh wee baby! Sing to me some more!

Not mind-blowing but not bad either. Girl's got a good voice and some good tunes, definitely a lot of potential there...And pretty cute, on top of it. I do wonder how much of it was calculated in an attempt to semi-emulate the retro-soul thing that Amy Winehouse started...kind of a soul version of turning Avril Lavine into a fake punk rocker, although obviously this is much less offensive. She does have the perfect voice for this kind of stuff, and for better or worse I'm largely unfamiliar with Dusty Springfield so that comparison doesn't really mean much to me. She's definitely singing well beyond her years though, should be interesting to see where this goes.
