R.E.M. - Accelerate.
release: april 01, 2008
you can listen to it @ the link above. i've only listened to "living well is the best revenge" and "superserious supernatural" and i'm loving it. sounds like "old" r.e.m. lotsa obscure hard to decipher lyrics and jangly guitars. which is a good thing.
and it f'ing rocks.

I am looking forward to it. I haven't really liked the last few albums they've put out, so hopefully a "return" to their past will be a fruitful one.

I didn't like Monster or New Adventures in Hi-Fi, so this is the first one I've bought since then.
It's good (although I don't know what's up with
Mr. Richards).
I just wish it was longer.

I liked a lot of Up and Reveal (Around the Sun was a disaster we will never speak of again), but it's wonderful to hear REM sounding like an actual band again. I've hardly listened to any REM in years, but this is slowly bringing me back into the fold, I think.

Happy Birthday R.E.M.!From R.E.M.
4:27pm Today
Today is the 28th anniversary of the band's first performance at a friend's birthday party at St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Oconee Street in Athens, GA.
27 years, 11 months, 27 days or 10,223 days later, R.E.M. released a record (Accelerate) that is just as strong a statement as that first performance was.
R.E.M. never set out to change the world or prove anything to anyone. Because of that, they have done both.
Happy Birthday to R.E.M. - Peter, Mike, Bill, Michael (and of course Bertis)

I think "Out Of Time" may have been the first non-classic rock CD I ever bought, when I was 11 or 12. It hasn't happened yet cause i've just had a lot of other things i've been listening to but i'm hoping this record gets me to dig back into the back catalog and re-discover some of that stuff.

Wow, you guys are missing out. New Adventures in Hi-Fi and Reveal are great records. Up is frustratingly inconsistent but has some really great moments ("Walk Unafraid," "Why Not Smile")

I picked up Accelerate a few days ago. I have mixed reactions to this thing. About half the album is decent, rocking for sure. Stipe sounds terrible on "Hollow Man." "Until the Day Is Done" starts off like "Country Feedback," only the new song moves into more of "King of Birds" vibe. "I'm Gonna DJ" has to be the worst ending to an album. I guess overall this album isn't doing it for me. They sound like old geezers trying to re-live old glories and sounds. I'm sure it works to sell records, but R.E.M. was always about treading new territory and they've been here before.
By the way, I happened to love Up. Reveal never grabbed me and I never bothered with their last one.
