I'm planning a big night on April 9 at the Visulite in Charlotte. My parents are coming from Michigan to meet my girlfriend's parents here in Charlotte, and then we'll all be going to the show at the Visulite (first OtR show for all the parents!).

The possible problem: A friend who has seen shows at the Visulite (non-Otr shows) says that it's pretty much standing room only, with only a couple seats around the bar. If this is true, my plans are pretty much ruined. The parents wouldn't be able to stand for anywhere near long enough to see the show. So has anyone actually seen Over the Rhine there? Do they bring in chairs or something? Stools? Benches? Bean bags? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hey, I live in Charlotte!

I saw OtR at the Visualite a couple years ago, and the venue was fine. People stand a lot though, except for some high tops they move near the standing area. There are elevated tables in the back half of the audience area too... so, probably half the folks are seated there. If you want those, get there early or call to see if you can reserve a table. The place was definitely more "concert" feeling than not, towards the front anyway. Sound quality was good as I recall, though!

Might see you there.

^Ugh. That's sooo not what I was hoping to hear. I was hoping that for a band like OtR, they'd put out a bunch of tables and chairs. Or at least chairs. I mean, it's not exactly a concert that screams stand-up to me, you know? (Well, except of course for the impromptu mosh pits I expect to break out during Don't Wait For Tom).
I've seen 'em quite a few times now, and I don't remember any venue that didn't seat just about everyone. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they bring in a slew of chairs.

I don't mind standing, but there's no way either set of parents would be able to. sad.gif I'm gonna try to talk to someone there about reserving a table, but so far I haven't been able to get anyone to return my calls. Maybe I'll try email. Or maybe I'll just have to be first in line when the doors open and sprint to save a table for six. Ugh.

Okay. I got to the bottom of it all, I think.
I just went up there to check the place out. If the setup for the OtR show is the same as the setup for the Duke-UNC basketball game on TV, I think I won't have any trouble getting seats, as long as I'm there early anyway. There are more of those high tables than I thought. They also had a few rows of folding chairs right in front of the stage. Thanks for the reply, Troy.

Thanks for the reply, Troy.

You're welcome! Hope it works out for ya. As it happens, I won't be going.... seems I'm getting married the week after that, and there is a bit of stuff to finalize. wink.gif

Oooh! Congratulations on the whole marriage thing -- hope that works out for you! wink.gif

Turns out everything seems to be working out fine for me. I just got a an email from the Visulite saying they'll reserve a table for six for me! Yay!
I love happy endings. smile.gif

Poop.
Spoke to soon. Now that it's postponed, my plans are all up in the air again. Guess I'll just have to wait and see when the rescheduled date is and see if that works for everybody. And if not, hope I can get a refund.
