The phrase " The dazzling journey of The Carlton Chronicles fits neatly on a shelf alongside Iron & Wine, Sufjan Stevens and Smog, blending stunning songwriting with a delicate, nuanced approach to production and orchestration." caught my attention... anyone heard this music or is that just marketing dribble....

The leader of South San Gabriel is Denton, TX singer-songwriter Will Johnson.
He has some solo stuff out, more in the folk-americana vein. South San Gabriel is almost an extension of his solo work
musically and there is a cousin to all of this too, a band called Centro-Matic. Some members of SSG are also in Centro-Matic,
which is more rockier than SSG. I really like Will's 2 solo albums, and all of South San Gabriels stuff. I believe I put a SSG song on the first mix I did on the orchard back in early 06. Will Johnson is a relentless tourer, with all 3 of these projects going on, and he
used to be up this way quite often, but I haven't seen or heard much of whats he's been up to for quite a while.
good info, thanks. Believe I will give them a spin....
