Mr. SoCal
Okay folks, we're about three weeks away from the four OtR concerts in Texas.

2/6 in Houston at the Mucky Duck. Showtime is 7:00.
2/7 in Austin at the Cactus Cafe. Abra Moore will be opening. Showtime is 8:30.
2/8 in Austin at the Cactus Cafe. Abra Moore will be opening. Showtime is 9:00.
2/9 in Dallas at the House of Blues. Abra Moore will be opening. Showtime is 8:30.

Who's gonna be in attendance?

When these dates were first announced I was scheduled to be out of the country and therefore unable to attend. Well, as it happens, my schedule has changed, so I'll at least be at the Dallas show. I'd love to be able to be at at least one of the other concerts, but the distances between the cities involved here makes it kinda tough.

So I ask again, who'll be at these shows? I haven't met any OtR fans from this part of the world.

In that case, say hi when you get here. smile.gif

Although no one else is chiming in here just yet, I know I've seen comments in other threads by folks who are planning on being at one (or more) of these shows. Hopefully they'll see this thread.

I'm going to the Houston show, too! I haven't seen any mention of an opening act for that date.

Abra Moore is opening for them for the other Texas shows. I'm not sure if that goes for Houston too... Bill, any ideas?

I just wanted to say that last nights show was fantastic. Due to unfortunate events i've missed the previous two shows that i had tickets for, and hadn't seen OtR in way too long. Last night the venue was a little crowded...kind of like sardines in there!but that's my only complaint! Everything else was perfect.

Karin's voice was amazing as always. The crowd was so silent and reverent. I feel so rejuvenated today...like i'm alive for the first time in months!

I hadn't heard Etcetera Whatever in concert in ages and it was absolutely incredible. When Karin got into I'm On a Roll, she was so sexy and vibrant and contagiously enthusiastic. And speaking of 'on a roll' Mickey was definitely on a roll!

Ok, so i'll post the set list soon!

I'll be raving for weeks... biggrin.gif

I was seriously thinking about it! Unfortunately i forgot that i had to go to a "Celebration of Life" for a friend that i met after i moved here who passed away over the weekend. (No, not Cristin...in case you've been following the prayer thread...infact she had a great day yesterday and was off of the respirator for the first time in 12 days)

But last night was amazing enough to last me for a little bit. wink.gif

Good talking to you yesterday, by the way! biggrin.gif

After going nearly two years without an Over the Rhine concert, I finally got to see them again on Saturday night at the House of Blues in Dallas. For what it's worth though, they weren't playing on the main stage, but rather in a smaller facility they were calling the "Cambridge Room". A band called Badfish (or something like that) - they're a Sublime tribute band - had the main stage and could occasionally be heard through the walls. It wasn't as annoying as the sound of landing planes at the Casbah in San Diego, but still...

The room was (imo) a little too small for the number of people. There were 9 or 10 rows of chairs that didn't provide a lot of leg room, and lots of folks were stuck having to stand off to the sides or behind the chairs. People were standing about three or four deep in tbe back of the room. Fortunately, we (my brother, his wife, and me) were able to grab seats on the aisle in the next to last row.

Abra Moore opened. Since I have a couple of her CDs I was looking forward to seeing her play for the first time. Unfortunately, I found her performance to be pretty disappointing - in fact, it was downright painful at times. She wasn't the absolute worst opener I've seen with OtR, but is almost certainly in the top two.

OtR did their solid job, as is to be expected. I didn't have a chance to grab a setlist, but here are the songs that they played (very out of order), to the best of my recollection:

Born
Drunkard's Prayer
Hush Now
Etcetera Whatever
B.P.D.
Jesus In New Orleans
Ohio
Suitcase
I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time*
Trouble
I'm On A Roll
The Trumpet Child*
Who'm I Kiddin' But Me*
Don't Wait For Tom*
If A Song Could Be President*
Fever
Orphan Girl

The asterisks indicate the songs that I'd not heard them perform live, so I definitely enjoyed getting to experience the live versions for the first time. I did think though that "The Trumpet Child" really lacked for not having a trumpet, and frankly, I didn't really care for the duet of "If A Song..." It seemed to me that Karin noticeably held back on her delivery to not overpower Linford. The song was not as good as it could have been as a result. At the other end of the spectrum, "B.P.D." was possibly the absolute highlight of the concert for me. It was the closest they came to rockin' during the show and Karin's vocals were at their unrestrained best.

All in all, it was a wonderful show. Easily the best evening I've had during my 11 months of exile in Texas.
