Full Version: All I Ever Get For Christmas Is...
OverTheRhine.COM -- Orchard > Over The Rhine > Over The Rhine General Chatter

My daughter Erin picked up Trumpet Child and Ohio when we saw OTR at Joseph Beth in August, and then picked up a copy of Snow Angel at St. E's so I figured she has a good start on her collection. But neither of the boys had any CDs of their own yet...so Connor (my 17 year old budding music director and "trumpet child extraordinaire" - kid is on his third instrument in band) got a copy of The Trumpet Child for Christmas, and Christopher got "Films For Radio."

And I convinced my friend Julie to finally see her first Over The Rhine show (St. E's on December 16th) and she loved it...so I figure that was the best gift I could have given her this season. biggrin.gif

And me...I got my very first very own OTR T-shirt (the Trumpet Child Tour shirt) so I don't have to always borrow 'Yote's (though...well...that was actually pre-birthday, but it was during the Christmas tour at the Kent Stage show, so it still counts...right?) biggrin.gif

How about you? Who did you spread the love of OTR to this holiday season? Or did someone spread some OTR your way?

Share the love!

My parents gave me The Trumpet Child record along with a record frame, so that will soon be going up next to our framed Ohio (that's what those of us without record players must do with our records). And I gave Snow Angels to the music director at church.

OtR was actually a pretty big part of my Christmas gifting. I took my sister to the show in Ann Arbor, Mi and my girlfriend to the show in Nashville, TN. These were the first shows for each. And I gave CD's: The Darkest Night of the Year and The Trumpet Child for my sister; Ohio and Snow Angels for my girlfriend; Snow Angels and The Darkest Night of the Year for my parents. And then my girlfriend gave her parents Ohio and Snow Angels.

I pretty much think Snow Angels and The Darkest Night of the Year are perfect Christmas presents. And a great way to turn someone on to some great music.

Which reminds me...I don't think I've actually *listened* to The Darkest Night of the Year yet.
Hmmmm...

DNOTY backfired for me. I gave it to my sister years ago, and it was her first taste of OtR. She didn't much care for it, and is still the one person in my immediate family who isn't an OtR fan.

I gave my parents Snow Angels for Christmas. They became OtR fans on their own this year, with a little prodding from me over the years. My mom can't stop talking about how much she loves Karin's voice. It's fun.

I have to say I agree....while I love Darkest Night I think that Snow Angels is a better "Christmas" opening for those who aren't already fans... I don't think DNOTY creates as many as Snow Angels does.... I did preorder LFN3 for my partner for the holidays, and got Good Dog Bad Dog (Home Recordings) for myself (finally don't know WHY I kept putting this off since I lost my last copy) I do like to give OtR for birthdays though.. makes a great gift.. and when they love them and get them all there is always live shows and posters ^.~

I've spread OTR like Paris Hilton spreads her......butter on her toast.

-given 27 copies of Trumpet Child over the past couple of months
-given 1 copy of Snow Angels
-given multiple copies of the recording that Keith did of our wedding...which if you haven't downloaded yet, seriously...you should. He did an amazing job. The band wasn't so bad either. wink.gif
-and gave almost 200 of our friends a chance to see them live. Talk about making fans! They're so amazing, that you just put them in front of a crowd, and the crowd falls easily. Ahhhh....how I love our band.

I gave my daughter For the Children 3 - it has The Poopsmith Song on it and she likes walking around the house and saying "poop potty?" she'll be 2 on the 14th smile.gif

I gave my boss the Snow Angles CD last year and Trumpet Child this year for Christmas. This year I took her to her first OTR show at the Taft! She's hooked!
