"introduce yourself, right on. introduce yourself, right on. introduce yourself, right on." -- Faith No More "Introduce Yourself"

My name is Dan. And I'm a musicholic.

I am newer to the forum, because of my former utter disdain for them (hence the former screen name). I am quickly being won over to them. Drew still wants me to change my username. I don't want to. We'll see. {EDIT: I ended up having to change from "forumsareforsucks"... }

Anyway, I'm married to the most gorgeous fairy on the forum (and elsewhere). She makes sparklies, and I am a drug dealer. By "drug dealer," I mean I deal in the matter of "drugs." By "drugs," I mean that I analyze and pontificate on the debits, credits, budgets, and other realizations of a financial general ledger.

I'm a "row and columns" guy, she's a "color and sparkles splattered on the wall" gal. It all works well together, naturally. Probably because I'm more of the "artsy-fartsy, candle-loving, don't watch sports" kinda guy. And doing her taxes for free didn't hurt in wooing her over... ;-)

I write superfluously. Some of what I say makes sense, some of it is Josh.

I like to write far more than I like 1) to talk and 2) to read. I'm a smart-ass mostly, but can be serious. I think it's time to take Myers-Briggs again and see if I still get pigeonholed as an INTJ. I like taking tests like that, which means I bet I will be INTJ again.

I like... music (see below), movies (ditto), concerts, philosophy, yoga, good food, and... I'm a 1+ year vegetarian, a pasty-faced bearded African-American from Ohio, who will end up in the Pacific NW sometime in the next few years. Lord & job willing.

I'm a fan of Toyota (Corolla & Prius driver), I hate mowing the lawn, and I only read "books" if forced to by a syllabus (current MBA student at the Univ of Dayton) or a dire need for political-social conscience (Nader, Chomsky, or Mr Moore). Brad Pitt & Johnny Depp are yummy. So is Tori Amos and Franka Potente.

My favorite superhero is Spider-Man. My least favorite exoskeletal creature is the spider. It makes sense.

Almost Famous
Amelie

Cannibal! The Musical

Hey fafs, you forgot Depeche Mode, NERD, Morcheeba, Sade and several other, you might want to take another look. You missed quite a few actually.

I am assuming you left out Erasure,The Cure and The Smiths on purpose (good call BTW)
WalrusOct9
Sounds like we have pretty similar taste in music.

Glad you mentioned Jughead...that was one of my favorite albums of 2002. You're into prog...do you like Spock's Beard and/or Transatlantic?

Hi Dan,
I agree with you that you should keep your name. It is who you were, therefore, who you are. It doesn't offend me at all.
I am so thrilled that you have allowed the forum to embrace you.
Your contribution here is so enjoyed.
Peace...

Thanks... tell that to The Drew <tm>...

I dig some Depeche... but I don't own any. Same goes for The Cure (my wife has one of theirs, though).
I like NERD's work on other artists... so far.
Not heard Morcheeba, yet. Same goes for Erasure and The Smiths.

Sade was on the list. She rocks. So do her lovers. Or something.

Yes, definitely into prog.

I was into Stryper and Milli Vanilli, then into Xian rock in high school, then I went to college and heard Dream Theater (IAW and Awake).

DT band changed by musical habits. Saviour Machine, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Queensryche, Ozric Tentacles (which actually got me into Over the Rhine due to proximity in the music racks), King's X, Galactic Cowboys (I ran their unofficially official site for years), Pink Floyd, et cetera... I was on the Ytsejam mailing list back on digest #675... I've been off for a while, though. My eBay ID is "ytsejam" and my Prius license plate is "YT5EJ4M"... biggrin.gif

Re: Jughead... GREAT ALBUM. Anything Ty Tabor touches is golden. And those Bissonettes are great, too. If you liked Jughead, and you don't know about The Mustard Seeds, well, find their two albums (eponymous and Red)

Oh, not really into Spock's Beard or Transatlantic. My bro has Transatlantic, and I heard a bit... didn't like the vocals (a big thing for me). I've not heard much Spock's Beard. YET.

WalrusOct9
I have burned copies of the two Mustard Seeds albums that a guy on the Ytsejam forum made me. I'd like to find real copies except I live in the wrong country to actually find that stuff in stores.

I could never get into Sade until she put out "Lovers Rock," that album blew my mind.

I guess if you didn't like TA's vocals you probably won't like Spock's, but you really should give their "V" album a listen. smile.gif
MyWaterMyWine
You should Definately check out Morcheeba. especially since you are Sigur Ros fan. As for Erasure and The Smiths (uh, I plead the fifth)

Later Skater

Oh also one of my current top three: Thievery Corporation
WalrusOct9
I second that. Morcheeba rules.

I kinda like the Smiths though, but I'm more of a Cure fan personally. smile.gif

eh... I had to... oh well, I'll pimp-slap Drew at a later date... wink.gif

my new name has OtR-significance... on the actwin list, one time i expressed disdain for "Poughkeepsie" and the "In the Garden" outtro to "Little Blue River." It marked my second time in drawing Karin Bergquist out to post that she'd "keep playing it until they pried the guitar from her cold dead hands." {paraphrased}

Nope, you win. I'm at about 1,150 real CDs, 200 bootlegs, 70 vinyl, 350 DVDs... or so...
WalrusOct9
I don't know how many actual discs I have...I'm just counting multi-disc sets as single entities. I do have a 10-disc set of Beatles BBC sessions and 16 discs of Let It Be sessions, meaning I can win any contest ever that measures patheticness.

Wish I had some vinyl though. There's nothing like the sound of new, unplayed vinyl. Mmmm....
Trudes
How many music files?
IMHO I think that is the wave of the future, although vinyl is beautiful for nostalgia, and album artwork is nice to look at.
I have a large collection of CD's as well. But, they are stored in a case and haven't been 'played' in a very long time because my computer has them all stored as files in my external hard drive for use at the click of a button.
Easy as pie.... and I can make a playlist of virtually any combination of tracks that I want. Stereo systems can be hooked up to your computer or music can be transferred to your mp3 player or ipod without handling any discs at all.
With the ability today of purchasing tracks or albums online, I do think CDs will decline in sales in the future.
Just an opinion.
WalrusOct9
I can't see myself ever, ever paying for a music download. Why pay for something with inferior sound quality that you can't play in your car, at work, at your friend's house, etc. It's the wave of the future, but I'm not looking forward to it.

Plus if I'm paying money, I'd like to have a physical product of some sort that I can keep. Hard drives die, computers crash, things are lost. CD's will last a long time (at least silver discs will...the life of CD-R's is up for debate currently)

How many music files?

I have a 40 gig iPod knock-off (RCA's Lyra). It's got 9,700 files on it... my burnt collection is 59 Gigs (well, of items that I may actually want to listen to at the touch of a button)... I need Apple to make an 80Gig iPod.

I'll be first in line. Second, maybe... behind Bruce (Lachey).

I like CDs far more than mp3's, though.

~fafs ph34r.gif
colddeadhands
I do have an mp3 CD stereo in my car, and my iPod (Lyra) works with my car, too... but I still pick normal CDs to listen to each day... the mp3's are for walking and mowing the lawn...

No, it's from my wife's website... http://www.pixieprincess.com/

A while ago, people on the actwin list were talking about OtR merch, and someone mentioned OtR pins... she made a prototype and sent it to Karin & Linford... they liked it. The rats aren't sold at OtR shows, but K&L did give her the blessing to sell them from her site (links below)...
