"While The Shepherds Watch Their Flock by Night"
Linford kept telling this 'bucket of toads' story to lead into The Trumpet Child this whole Snow Angel tour.
The first run-throughs I saw were at the Old Town School of folk Music, in Chicago with Euphrates. They seemed pretty playful that night- to 2 sold out houses.

The story (in many ways) has gone like this. Linford recalling the leg of the Trumpet Child tour that swung through the southwest of the USA, and how in Arizona they stopped to find a place Karin and her mother lived a while in her childhood. Linford mentions how when ever he tip-toes back in to his history like this, its like spying, almost intruding.

Stealing back to nostalgia, someone said.

They found the building, the apartment, the place where Karin kept her bucket of toads.
Her bucket of toads.
They didn't allow the usual sorts of pets there. Karin's a pet person, to her essence.
The land provided toads.

Linford goes on about how his father used to make him and his sibling rouse early to sing in his church Christmas morning. "All five verses of 'While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks By Night.' A rather forbidding and...angular tune for children." How they would stand there in their bathrobes, sashes wrapped around there head to approximate wise men.

To which Karin cracked "if you'd like us to wear bathrobes, we'd do it. Save me a lot of fuss."
(They were dressed to the 8.23rds that night. If 9’s is top hats and tails).

And on about how they've liked the feeling of touring this time of year, gathering in small rooms to see folks on stage possibly make fools of them selves.

And how before you can have the lion and the lamb, maybe you gotta have the bucket of toads.

He should remember how well how blessed and graced such fools are. And How beautifully they share it with us, the audience, the fans.

"I make my confession
I make it in public.
I hope that its helpful
That others can use it
That it's more than my ego
My need to abuse it."
-Linford, 'Here It is'

I could only find versions with 6 verses.

Totally there with the forbidding and angular.

In other stories-
So as the Taft I took my typical smoke break- this being the point I realize the band’s about to play Ohio- and saw what looked like somebody about to get towed from in front of the theatre. Upon closer inspection, I see the tow truck driver and a familiar hat.

Michelle Shocked’s got a flat tire.
She can drive 500 miles and not get out of LA, and Ohio’s giving crap too.

I’ve got the super extra wicked cool AAA membership, so I want make sure this isn’t coming out of her pocket. So, I says hi and it’s probably a couple of minutes before I even bring up I liked her set. (Mostly Anchorage and 500 miles).

I’ve no idea what sort of helpful weirdo she thought I was till that point.

For all that I missed “Entertaining Thoughts” but it gave the loves a chance to be close without the boy in the middle.

Be well
