The setlist: (I tested my memory skills by just uh... remembering and then writing down the songs when I got back to my hotel room. And there's one song -- "Angel Band" -- that I'm not 100% sure of. I hadn't heard it before, so I googled the lyrics I could remember and this is the song that came up. She dedicated it to the crew that helps out on the tour, so it kinda makes sense and I'd be willing to bet that that's the song.)

I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time
I'm On a Roll
All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue
Trouble
Nothing Is Innocent
The Trumpet Child
Who'm I Kiddin' But Me
Darlin' (Christmas Is Coming)
Snow Angel
Angel Band
Goodbye Charles
North Pole Man
Ohio
Entertaining Thoughts
Hush Now

Drunkard's Prayer
If A Song Could Be President
Don't Wait For Tom

I loved it! (I always do.) It's only the second time I've seen them this tour (and likely to be the last) and the show was considerably different than the one I saw in Ann Arbor last week. To start with, there were two extra band members: Brad Jones (I think they said he's from Nashville and produced The Trumpet Child?) on guitar and Paul Patterson (who they introduce as being in "a little band you may have heard of -- the Cincinnatti Symphony Orchestra") on violin. They were both good, but I thought the violin guy reaaaalllly added a lot to the overall sound. Well done. They fit right in and everybody has a lot of fun. One of the show's highlights for me was during the Who'm I Kiddin' But Me jam session -- Mickey set aside his usual drum solo for what appeared to be an impromptu rendition of Sleigh Ride. I say "impromptu" because everyone else seemed a bit surprised when he started singing, and he seemed a little surprised that he didn't know all the words -- but he improvised and was quite funny, as usual.

Basically, the Belcourt's one of those cool old little theaters that are great places to see a show. And the band, as always, was in great form. Making the whole night even more special for me was that I was able to bring my girlfriend to this one -- her first Over The Rhine show. She loved it, and told me afterwards that she'll probably be a little obsessed with them for a while now. smile.gif We're already planning on the Taft festivities for next year. Unfortunately, just won't be able to make it happen this year.

I'm so glad they're doing Snow Angel again this year; it's such a great song. I was afraid they'd shelve it after Karin said last year how hard it is for her to get through... biggrin.gif
