Just got home a while ago from a great mid-week trip to Madison and Milwaukee.
After seeing them live up here in Minneapolis Sunday night, I ventured down to Mad-town and Milwaukee
for Tuesday and Wednesday night shows. It was 3 great shows (counting the Mpls one), and a well needed 'otr soul journey' for me.
And the band....what more can be said- they are having so much fun right now, and that energy and heart
that they give to the audience on stage, flows right down into the audience. Tonight, I'll post pics and setlists, and some
commentary. Right now, this old dude needs a nap!

It was a much needed run of shows. The first one in Minneapolis was with Sue and Brandee (my daughter), the Madison show was with my best friend from high school from the Rockford, Illinois area (his first ever OtR show), and I was in Milwaukee solo. It was a nice break from work in the middle of the week, just to get away for a little personal soul journey. And it was perfect.

Minneapolis 11/25
The run of shows started with a nice Sunday night show in Minneapolis. I posted the setlist in the Cedar Cultural Center thread.
This was my daughter's first ever OtR show, and she is still raving over it and can't wait for Taft. The only issues I had about the show was a few sound problems, and in talking with Karin last night, she said the sound system at the Cedar had a hard time supporting what OtR wanted to sound like. Other than that, it was so good to see them in my home turf, and the place was packed for them, and they were well received here. On a side note, when Juicy saw me, he wondered what the heck are you guys doing here, then Karin told him that we live here. And afterward Mickey thanked us for coming, and asked how long it took us to drive up here, to which I said 20-25 minutes. Huh, he said. Then I told him we live up here. I guess we've just been to Ohio so much.
They think we live in Cincinnati! A highlight for the night was Go Down Easy.
Here's some pics, but the red light was too much, especially right above Karin.

Madison 11/27
A nice 4 hour drive through the beautiful rolling hills of Western Wisconsin led me to Mad-town. I met Bob near the venue, and we had lots of time to kill, so off we went to State Street, and true to form for me and him also was to hit 3 CD stores. The venue was a theater near the State Capitol and I had gotten us seats in the first opera box, practically right on top of the band. Perfect. I met some people a few boxes away from us, Patrick and Tracy from Milwaukee.
Pat is a professional photographer, and I'm going to see if he can post his photos or at put them up on his web site. A real nice couple, and this was their first live OtR show. The show went well, the sound was real nice. The only disappontment was the venue was not even half full. But the audience sure made it sound like it was full. A great show. I think this one was my favorite overall show, because it was in such a beautigul venue.
Highlights included Suitcase, a kind of short little mini jam on Orphan Girl with Karin, Linford and Jake, and I really like the organ that they've added to some songs, especially Who'm I Kiddin', that song just rolls along. Here's some pics from Madison:

IN THE SHADOW OF WISCONSIN'S STATE CAPITOL

Milwaukee 11/28
A little over an hour drive from Madison is Milwaukee- probably the beer, brat, bowling and polka capitol of America. I spent most of the day CD shopping, checking out Brady Street and few other points of interest. The Miramar is a few miles north of downtown. It was kind of a dank, dark place.
And once again the place was not packed at all. Now this OtR show has to go down as one of funnest shows I've been too. I wish this one would've been recorded. The set list needs Drunkards Prayer added in the encore between Hush Now and Prez. They added it when someone shouted it out for a request. The fun moments- many!
Mickey got a standing ovation for his drum solo on Kiddin'.
On this tour Linford's been talking about firing up a grill to cook some wieners in the alley after the shows. So on their way to the hotel to rest before the show, out front was the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. Linford said they should adopt it as a sponsor. At this point Mickey decided we all needed to sing the Oscar Meyer theme song. And we all did- a rousing version of If I Were An Oscar Meyer Wiener...
And after Goodbye Charles, Linford had some problems he needed checking on the sound of his piano. So he said to bear with him as he was tuning. Soon he started playing the Charlie Brown Christmas theme song, the rest of the band joined in, and away they went. How fun, and all the while Karin is in the background dancing the way the Peanuts characters dance.
Pics were hard to come by here, as it was dark, dark, dark. Here are a few:

I saw some of Patricks photos on his camera and they look real nice. I'll try to get him to post some or at least get a link to them.
Also OtR was on WUWM in studio on Wednesday. Milwaukee Public Radio.
I couldn't find anything on the web site and sent them an e-mail wondering about it.

All in all, just a wonderful few days. And the hospitality of the band and the crew was unbelievable. Thank you Over the Rhine !
