Hey all. Just got done reading Karin's entry GOOD DOGS DIE HARD in the OtR tour diary. I couldn't find a thread for fan/apple comments on K & L's entries, so I thought I'd start this one.

When did Karin become the writer of the two of them??? tongue.gif Although I enjoy reading every entry, this one really struck me.

The energy in the room was sacred, but not sterile. Holy but not austere. And the hair on my arms prickled to life as we walked around the room drinking in the work of our greatest single musical influence.

Great writing. Made me wish I had been there, but also, in a way, made me feel like I had. The comments on Willow and dogs were great.

Thanks Karin. smile.gif

I came to realize Michael had chosen an older photo of myself and our beloved Willow, our Weimaraner, for his brochure and as one of the portraits to be voicelessly auctioned off that evening.

and dammit, this beautiful print was *mine*... until about 10:30PM when i was outbid. mad.gif

Thanks for this thread, John! (I already thanked Karin recently for the Tour Diary)

Agreed. Probably the most moving tour diary entry Karin's written, yet. 'wonder what else she'll share with us. Thanks for sharing the evening, Karin. Wish we could have been there to see it, in person.

when thinking back on wed night, the phrase "i wanna do better, i wanna try harder" just keeps popping into my head. i'm not sure why, but it does. it was just that kind of night, there was just this incredible presence of goodness, happiness & friendship in the room, an indescribable "warmth" seemed to be floating through the place and everyone in it...

not sure what or why, i'm just damn happy i was there to experience it.

Hit the nail on the head, Bill....all I could add was it was such a fascinating gathering of so many different artists - there were sculptors & potters & symphony musicians & jazz musicians & rock n roll cats, and other photographers & painters & writers and schleps like us all honoring one of the finest in MW.

Fantastic.... Makes me very sad I have not gotten out to see a show this year. sad.gif

Thanks for the news! The Majestic sounds like a great place to play/see a show. And that radio studio sounds amazing! Karin's observations on family were wonderful. To belong...

And I still say Linford is on the run for the "best writer" between the two of them. smile.gif

Anyway, I would be remiss if I neglected to mention that during his solo tonight, well... Mickey blew a wingnut.

Need I say more?

If anybody has pictures of Mick holding his floor tom over his head during his solo, please post them. It's a visual.

Somebody please elaborate. Sounds like a classic moment......

Well, here goes. A wingnut blew out on Mickey's floor tom, the drum located facing away from the audience. It apparently started lean away from him, but he grabbed it -- all while still doing an elaborate drum solo -- and lifted it over his head. He placed it on the ground closer to the snare drum, finishing off the song without missing much of a beat, literally.

That's so cool. I've been a drummer for years and Mickey is quite a find for the group. Such a great drummer with a matching personality. Would love to see photos or video of that!

In response to The Nursing Home.

Karin's post brought back memories for me of when my mom was very sick before passing away last May. Although it was a very difficult time, it was a tremendous blessing for her and us. Our home was not sufficient for her needs. The level of "caring" (not just "care") was surprising to me. Many times as I would visit with her, staff would come into her room at the end of their shift to say goodnight to mom. I always said I would go back there to thank the people at that facility.

Maybe it's time.

Thanks for the reminder Karin,
J

Karin, Thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts. You warmed my heart this morning.
And happy birthday to Dave.
You guys are the most special people.
I'm so fortunate to be in this community.

Certainly a timely message for me. We helped my mom transition to a nearby f/t care facility just a few weeks ago after a whole lot of research when it became clear she could no longer live in her apartment even with p/t assistance. The people on her team and the client activities and the level of care there are just *so* much better than the facility she was dumped to for rehab after her initial hospital stay a year ago. It's a difficult time for my mom and for my sisters & brothers & me, but at least we all feel assured she's in a place where people genuinely care about her welfare.

Thanks Karin, and happy birthday Juicy! (I don't think you're ready for the nursing home just yet)

A very nice and thought provoking piece. I personally don't have any family members in a nursing home (yet), but mother is in and out of the hospital with back operations. So, some of the sentiments apply (i.e., both frustration and gratitude for the modern health care system).

Thanks for sharing Karin. Happy Birthday Dave.

As my aunt (who raised me as her own) has spent 2 years recovering from aneurism and has spent a great deal of time in rehab facilities. Remarkably, she is home and highly functional. There have been so many wonderful professionals who have challenged and supported her throughout her recovery. There aren't words to represent my gratitude...

This is timely as she saw OTR for the first time in Kent last week! She absolutely loved it after hearing them so often when I am home. She kept saying that the cds just don't capture Karin's amazing voice. It was good for her to be out and doing something fun on a Friday night!

So thanks, Karin for your words here and on stage!

As we all are caregivers for loved ones, may we find peace and persistence.

Mickey certainly is.
Karin made the comment of "If you got the snot beat out of you every night you'd give up too."
After filling the end of the song with "The Devil's got nothing on Mickey Grimm."

After filling the end of the song with "The Devil's got nothing on Mickey Grimm."
my favorite was after a particularly rowdy solo by mickey, after she whispered "the devil's in the details" at the end of the song, she added "the devil looks a lot like mickey grimm" then paused, smiled, and added "but he's not as good of a drummer."
