since tish brought it up in another thread...
anybody wanna grab dinner or meet up before the show?
it's gonna be kind of weird this time around w/only one night and all. and as jeanne mentioned, probably a smaller group of "us" this time around, due to the one night. i'll prob drive up on saturday and can be there whenever.
any ideas, suggestions, let 'em fly...
looking forward to it.

I'm up for dinner. We have our standbys of Thai 9 and Brixx, but I don't spend much time downtown, so maybe someone else has better dinner suggestions.

Actually know where Thai 9 is now-
Right around the corner from The Oregon Express, where I did my first poetry slam in Dayton.
Totally up for it. It'll be good to hang with the cool kids.

I am most probably in. (I have a ticket, anyway). I'm attempting the idiocy of going from STL to Dayton in one day via South Bend on my way to North Carolina for TG. Duke-Notre Dame football gets over around 5:30 and I'll probably arrive in Dayton during the opener.

I just got around to getting my ticket last night. (As Kim the waitress put it when she saw me, "So you're finally getting tickets?"

Actually, just the one.) But it's #169! I don't remember having such a high number before. No doubt it's going to sell out in advance.

Have you called CST? Not sure how they work it with Port Merch. but they might have some tix in-house.
Word of warning: CST is not open on Tuesday nights. Kate and I tried to get tix last Tues. and the bartender next door said they're not doing Tuesdays anymore. We got our tix via mail order from CST. They were hand-cut and hand-numbered - up to 174.
Maybe Brandon can smuggle you in inside an equipment case.

We had all sorts of fun getting tickets - I'd been watching the website, and the moment the were available, it said you had to mail in for tickets. Remembering how we had to get them from the venue in March, we sent money back with Zon to go pick us up tickets at Canal Street. She drove all the way out there, to be told (and not very nicely apparently) that Canal Street had sent tickets to OTR to sell on the website, and you couldn't get them from the venue anymore. SO she went back home and ordered tickets from port merch. And being that they're sold out now, I don't know what other options there are.
But..no Kylie Jo? Say it ain't so! I'd definitely see if Brandon can smuggle you in with the equipment. Hey...you know...if you do merch...

Sooooooooo, doors open at 8:00 PM, and we all know what seating is like at Canal Street. We want to be in line *well* before then. You think 6pm is early enough to meet up, or should we try for earlier? And I'm personally thinking that keeping to the tradition of Thai 9 sounds good (though I know a certain 'Yote who's developed a strong craving for Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce and hasn't actually been to the restaraunt yet...though having grown up just down the street from the original in Montgomery, I'm probably going to just take him there one of these days).
It's Saturday - we can be there as early as we need to be. So say the word - 6pm or earlier, and Thai 9? Or Montgomery Inn?

I checked the CST web site last Tuesday, and although they still say they have Musician's co-op on Tuesdays on the website, I checked the .pdf version of the calendar and saw that they were closed every Tuesday in October, so I waited until Wednesday night to go down. They were selling tickets at the bar that night (and playing The Trumpet Child as well), so they might have some left, but I suspect not many. I'd offer to check, but I don't get paid until Thursday, and I won't have cash until then...
Of course, you could always show up & see if anyone has tickets to sell in line. It's worked pretty well for Apples in the past.

Have we decided?
I'm thinking 5:00 PM is better than 6:00 PM, just knowing how things went at Canal Street in the spring, particularly since this is a sold out show.
Thai 9???
Or were there more votes for Montgomery Inn?
And, we should probably get a head count of sorts. Not having been there, I don't know if anyone needs to make a reservation for Thai 9...
If not, I figure whoever gets there first just lets the host know how many we think will be there, and tell them folks will be asking for the "Apple" party.
Speak up, y'all! The newbie should not be the one organizing this! LOL
See you tomorrow!!!

NEED A TICKET TO RIDE!!!
Since I was heading on my trip the past few weeks-I had not really thought about the show at Canal Street--I was focused on getting things ready for the trip----so I did not go buy a ticket in advance.
Needless to say--the show is a sell out.
I am hoping that one of you fine folks just might happen to be in possession of ONE extra ticket you might be compelled to part with for an appropriate sum!
I guess I should have thought about buying the ticket long before this--but I swear--I think I went to sleep one night back in late August or early September and when I woke up it was late October/early November.
Where in the heck did the time go????
My God--it's Thanksgiving already!!!
At the very least---I will try the old fall back position--get down to CST at five or so and be one of the first in line for an SRO ticket--
Thanks---

Unravelled. *nods*
Good way to phrase it.
These are those moments when I'm glad my mate and I are wired the same. It's an adventure.
When we determined that reservations *were* apparently required (at least that's what they told Zon when she got there before us), we started walking. Explored 5th St. a bit, ended up at the Trolley Stop for bar food and people watching while Zon and Alex trekked back to their place to retrieve the tickets (oops). And had a wonderful night despite various similar near trainwrecks.
We ended up close enough for me to get actual photos of the *band* (I try not to use a flash while they're performing, and usually that's just been pointless).

Some of which turned out pretty sweet. Will post those up later...probably tonight at work after we go to the CEA's (where with any luck I'll manage more pictures to share).
It was great seeing everyone! We'll see y'all next weekend in Chicago, and again the weekend after in Kent...and then Taft weekend! Woohoo!

yeah, the show was very good, but it wasn't the typical CST "event" with it being only one night and missing many of "the usual suspects." i know i didn't hang out as usual after the show to chat and all so i could get on the road and head home (and it was still 3:30am when i got in). hopefully come spring we'll be back to multiple nights, the usual cast of characters and typical orchestrated chaos, fun and insanity.

As Jeanne noted--there was a bit of a different vibe to the show this time----it was a good show but some energy or something was missing--I wonder if K&L and the gang are just a bit road weary perhaps?
They have been on a long trek touring these past few months----that would have to be so very tiring--I just came back a day before this show from a week long trip that I did not do too much more than chill out on and I was a bit laggy that night too thanks to having just gotten done with a day of travel back to the States.
Karin and Linford did not hang around after the show either and went directly back to the hotel, so there was not any of that post show banter with them as is usually the case.
I hope that K&L take time soon to just chill and recharge the batteries---I guess that a bit of tiredness is one of the downsides of doing what they do for a living----being out on the road no doubt has some good sides, but then I am sure it would have to also be somewhat exhausting as well.

i didn't notice any lack of energy during the show and/or performance. not at all. personally, i thought it was a great set.
they did get into dayton a little later than expected and had a bit of a rushed & rough soundcheck, which was noted and handled gracefully and with a bit of humor and amusement when a prob cropped up during the first set. yet they just laughed and trudged on, where many artists would have freaked out and a problem like that would have effected the remainder of the show.
also, the meet & greet after the show is nice when it happens and has always been an added "bonus" of sorts, but (imho) shouldn't be expected of them and in all honesty (again, imho) has zero impact on the show or performance.
if anything, i think the missing "vibe" was probably us, this was not the "typical CST weekend," the "event" that many of us have come to look forward to and to expect, it was just "another" show, which the CST has never been before. they played a great set, that's really all that should be expected from them (once again, imnsho).
Jeanne
Nov 19 2007, 12:34 PM
Yes, I thought the odd vibe had nothing to do with the band's performance. They seemed pretty "on" and happy. I do think part of it might have been that it was the first time they haven't done back to back shows in Canal Street in a number of years, which in turn, made for a lower Apple turnout than usual, but I also think I really missed the pre-show gathering.

Jeanne,
Beautiful close-ups as always.
I seriously think you could go to various concerts and offer your photos to the PR person of the band or performer for publicity shots. Or offer them to venues to hang on the wall collections (with the performer's permission).
You have a specialized gift.
