also, please ask your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc whomever (basically anybody who won't think you are crazy for asking...and what the hell, maybe a few who think you are), to do the same. i don't think we will pull it off with 40-50 letters, it's probably going to take hundreds to get them to take notice. "And if 50 people a day, i said 50 people a day...friends they may thinks it's a movement."
so anyway, i am mailing the stuff to them tomorrow (friday), i'm asking everyone to start e-mailing (snail mail is cool too, the more the better) their requests on monday (10/1), that way they should have the original letter and disc in hand by then. maybe if the envelope hits and they immediately start getting requests, it'll all click with them and we'll get their attention, just like we did w/ACL.
please send the e-mails to: rogers101@yahoo.com and cbsmailbag@aol.com
thanks again.

Dear Ms. Rogers,
I am writing to you as a fan of the band “Over the Rhine” and of “The Late Show with David Letterman.” In my opinion, “Over the rhine” would be would be a perfect fit for the show and your audience and I would appreciate your consideration of them for a future performance on “Letterman.”
Their new CD, “The Trumpet Child” was released on August 21st and they are currently on an extensive tour in support of the release. “The Trumpet Child” has been well received and highly ranked on several national and Billboard charts and the fan response has been overwhelming and extremely positive.
While “Over the Rhine” may not be a household name as of yet, they continue to headline shows to sold out audience throughout the world and have shared the stage with acts such as; Bob Dylan, John Prine, Cowboy Junkies, Son Volt and Adrian Belew to name a few and they have worked hard over the past 15+ years (and 17 CD’s) to cultivate a large and intensely loyal fan base that I’m sure would strongly support and appreciate the opportunity to see them perform on your show.
In short, they deliver beautiful music that is entertaining, yet relevant to people’s lives and the world in which we live. All set to beautiful melodies and lyrics performed by the most beautiful, intense and powerful voice making music today.
This request is solely as a fan of music, of your show and of this band and not by the band, I have no professional affiliation nor am I a representative for them (but their contact info is: Mark Lourie w/Skyline Talent @ (207) 878-2330, mark@skylineonline.com or Glen Phillips w/Beat Management Inc. @ (773) 278-9490, glen@beatmanagement.com). Also, you can review more information about the band and hear selections from “The Trumpet Child” at overtherhine.com.
Thank you in advance for your serious consideration of this request, it is appreciated.
Sincerely,
.
