I set this up to record before I left the house earlier - I just got back and found out that I missed the beginning of it. I was recording from 2:20ish onward - if I'm seeing this correctly, they were off the air before 2:30 and then the DJ played the album cut of "Don't Wait For Tom" while they left. I'm just skimming now (I'll listen to it for real later) but I definitely have all of "Entertaining Thoughts" and "If A Song Could Be President" here (I think that's all I have for songs from this, and the rest is an interview).

Does anyone know if it would be allowed for me to post this to the Internet Archive later? (I have a few other OtR radio things I've recorded online too, but I've misplaced a few of them...)

I downloaded this file, got "This file requires Winamp", downloaded Winamp and got "Safari can't open this file because no available application can open it". I'm running Mac OS X Tiger, is there any way I can play this recording?

It downloaded as an mp3 file for me and plays just fine in iTunes on my Mac, and I'm using Tiger, too. And all I had to do was click the link. Maybe it's a Safari issue; I'm using Firefox as my browser.

I don't know anything about Macs, but I'm pretty sure it's just a normal mp3 file. There might be something wonky in there because it is the direct feed from the stream, but I think it should play fine in any mp3 player. Maybe you could try adding the file to your iTunes library? I'd be surprised if QuickTime/iTunes couldn't open it.

I just tried downloading it in Safari. It's definitely a browser issue. It downloaded this time as pub_int.mp3.html. If you rename the file by lopping the .html extension off the end, it should play just fine.

That mp3 file is a 2 hour clip from WNKU, only the first 16 minutes of which is OtR, so I was listening to the rest out of idle curiosity, and I received a very pleasant surprise. World Cafe with David Dye came on, and lo and behold, his guest is none other than the lovely Devon Sproule. She's from near here (Charlottesville) and is one of my all time favorites. I've mentioned her on these boards before, because it seems to me that fans of OtR would find in her a lot to like. She shares their kind of earthy, relational aesthetic, not to mention that she's an awesome singer, guitarist and writer. This 19 minute interview includes three live songs. The third, "Keep Your Silver Shined", is an especially good example of her OtR-esque sensibilities (she even mentions Poughkeepsie). Check it out, starting at 59.47 of the clip, and thank me later. wink.gif

Sorry about that - I meant to mention it but it looks like I forgot to. I don't have the proper software to edit things down and I've been trying to just put stuff out there instead of leaving it on my to do list until I get around to installing software and such. If somebody wants to cut the file down to size and repost it, I'd appreciate it.

I noticed that they've been re-airing that one lately (I follow World Cafe through their RSS feed). You'll probably get better sound quality going directly to NPR's website and streaming it from there, though (plus they let you choose your media player)

I remember chuckling when she said that - I can't help but think of the song every time I hear about the place.
