On SHO. Wow. I loved it. Only two episodes in and I'm hooked. SITC fans I think would enjoy this.
Here's the website. David Ducovney is excellent as a man who is on the mend from a break-up with his ex. Actually he still loves her but she has moved on. He tries to cope with this rejection by screwing everyone in a skirt. Very funny dysfunctional relationships, IMHO.

I watched epi 1 and laughed my ass off.
Who knew that television was still funny? heh.

Crap...I need to download this. It sounds like it'd be pretty interesting.
Although does anyone else think it (in theory, anyway) seems a bit reminiscent of Dream On? (Secondly, does anyone even remember that show?)

Steve...yes, you do need to d/l...or tivo if you can't watch. It follows WEEDS...another fave.
I watched Dream On a couple of times when it was on. Yeah, it does remind me of that show. Somehow, this one seems a bit more riske'. The story is already getting involved so hurry up so you don't get too far behind.

Okay, downloading...hopefully I'll get a chance to watch this weekend.
"Dream On" aired in what, 1990? Even though it was on HBO originally, I think shows on HBO and Showtime can get away with a lot more than they could 15 years ago...just the concept seemed similar, but "Dream On" is such an obscure show that I doubt anyone will notice. Looking forward to seeing it, it's been awhile since I've seen Duchovny do something really good that didn't involve aliens or
Red Shoe Diaries.

Cool.
I caught epi 2 at my parent's over the weekend. I guess I'm gonna be naturally behind on this one cause my ass can't afford the luxuries of digital cable or pay channels. heh.
Absolutely cracked up at DD vomiting on the painting that "could have been a car."

That's what the internet is for.

Luckily there's only been two episodes so far, and it's not like trying to catch up with, say, Entourage or 24 or Lost or something...which I really need to do.

Hmmm, this taken from Wikipedia....
Californicator
(U.S.) A former resident of California that has moved to another state, usually Washington or Oregon but insists on keeping with the "me first" attitude that characterizes many Californians.
So I'm wondering, are these people in the series still living in California? If they really are transplanted, I will HAVE to watch it. While we don't use that term much around these parts, it is kind of a region wide pastime to make fun of people who fit that EXACT description.
(please note the word exact. I don't know anyone on these forums, even if they moved here from California, that would fit this term exactly).

actually the show is about fornication. set in California.
IMO, a much more enjoyable subject.

This show is so hilariously quotable.
Hank: "Who would that be?"
Girl: "That'd be my husband"
Hank: "Oh. Well maybe I should hide under your clit, he'll never find me there"
Anyone see it this week?

Are you kidding? It's now my favorite show.
I liked when Hank walks in on the S&M session between the agent and his secretary. He waits til he recovers from his panic attack then he smacks him in the head!
And when he punched the a**hole at the party out by the car.
Getting the cellphone for his daughter.
Hank is my hero.

Yay, new episode tonight! (or tomorrow, for me...heh)
Seriously, this is becoming one of the highlights of my week....I hope there ends up being more than the initial 12 episodes planned.

I'm hooked. I had my doubts because of the tired premise (I really hate when writers try to make writing characters), but Duchovney really makes this show. And the rest of the actors are really good as well. It's risqué, as Trudes said, but also irreverent. And it's really well-written in terms of the writers understanding the appeal of scenes and half-scenes, and dream sequences that aren't corny or boring. The whole Bukowski/Thompson/Hemingway personality split of Hank was worrisome at the beginning, but I think the humor helps balance that out. I love it so far and waited up for it last night.

For Trudes and anyone else who watches, apparently the show has been
renewed for a second season.

I thought the show was initially supposed to be a mini-series, but I guess the execs have spoken.

What did y'all think of the finale? Cliche right down to the bitter end, but I still kept rooting for Hank. Wow. I wish I knew what the appeal was for me. I nitpick the screen-writing all the way through every episode, but I still love it.
WalrusOct9

The appeal is the characters. I think it got a bit uneven during the second half of the season but all the characters are so good that it's still worth watching.
I liked the last episode except the very end...it was a bit too cliched for me. I guess since they knew they were doing a second season way back in August or September, I figured they'd leave some hanging plot element to carry over into season two, but apparently not. I'm still looking forward to next year though, although I have a feeling it's going to start 6 months to 2 years after the end of season one.

You know, the end could very well be a dream sequence. Season two could open with her wedding, which would make the ending of season one less cliche.

It's Californication, not Lost.

I dunno, maybe...but I think that'd be kind of cheap.
I think the next season will be several months to a year or two after...Hank's book will come out and the show will deal with that phase in contrast to the underlying "i'm a writer who can't write" theme of season one.
I also think her running out on the wedding was an easy way to write out Bill and Mia, since those character relationships seem to have been mostly played out by the end of the season.

The ending was very cliche but it worked for 'The Graduate'. If fact it was exactly like the graduate except in a porche instead of a bus. (You must see that film if you never have)
You know it may very well be a dream since the show has had Hank's dreams visualized....ie: jumping off the cliff.
I'd be OK with that.
Regardless, I still think he hasn't 'won' Karen cause isn't that the premise of the 'caliFORNICATION' theme..
Screwing his way out of his rejected self loathing funk?
Whatever, I think David Ducovney has done an excellent job with this role. How can you not root for him?
I don't know how long Becca can be kept disappointed....she's definitely a player on Hank's team.
Charlie and his wife are great comrads.
Love the characters, love the show.

The more I think about it, the more I think it
has to be a dream sequence, because it's just out of Karen's character to leave
with Hank. She left him for a reason, and even though she's suseptible to his seduction, she has been pretty clear about why she left, and that's it's basically over for her. I can see her leaving the wedding, sure, but not for Hank. He represents an older mistake than Bill. Even Becca's monkey-wrench of moving in with Hank would not, I believe, justify her leaving Bill
for Hank. It has to be a dream sequence too, because I don't think the suggestion on Mia's part that Hank had slept with her would not have been let go so easily by Bill. That whole scene got resolved way too quickly and easily. Has to be a dream. These are all things that would be bugging him as the wedding approached anyway.
Of course, the writers can do whatever they want with the storyline. I wonder if they wrote any of the next season BEFORE the strike? If not, could be a long wait...

Well, I mean, I don't know any of these guys personally, but I imagine some of these writers, the ones who are really attached to their shows and not just hired guns to write generic network sitcoms or late-show jokes, are probably still writing, or at least logging ideas for episodes and plots and such.
I mean, I'm sure the guy who created the show is fairly attached to it, and is probably still working on the second season, even if it's informally. I mean, you don't put your creative soul into something like that and then just stop thinking about it because of a strike. If there were some kind of nationwide musicians strike or something, K&L might stop performing during it but I don't think they could stop themselves from writing songs and continuing to create, even if they had to wait a bit before acting on it publicly.
