Is this based on the Robert Littell book of the same name? I read that a short while ago and thought I'd heard something about a mini-series or movie or something being made out of it, but didn't know about this particular mini-series airing.

Last week's episode was about the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and Bay of Pigs... Very very good if you are into the spy novel stuff.
