hit and run
This is the first OtR CD I've bought and I can't stop playing it in the car. I'm waiting for the Trumpet Child to come out and pre-ordered it, along with Good Dog, Bad Dog - Just can't wait until later this month!

Yeah... Ohio was the first one I got too. It sucked me in bigtime, only 6 months or so ago..

Ohio is an absolutely fantastic pair of albums. I have to rank it high up there in my listings for fav OTR CD. As I'm sure it does for a number of individuals, that top position changes almost daily, depending upon my mood.

However, the first tracks on both CDs are undeniably OTR's best openers. B.P.D. and Long Lost Brother both carry so much power and force to the subtleness native to Over the Rhine's lyrics. Their grandeur is a precursor and promise that the following tracks to come will be nothing short of spectacular.

I don't know - there is some steep competition there (The World Can Wait, Latter Days, I Don't Want to Waste Your Time, Happy With Myself?)

Latter Days would be my absolute favorite opener if the album cut had the piano intro that they played on the GDBD tour.

I still don't like BPD very much, it always reminds me of She Loves You (one of the very few Beatle songs I don't like) with the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. But of course most of you aren't old enough to have that problem! I think Long Lost Brother is a great opener, although I wouldn't rate it quite as highly as Latter Days or The World Can Wait myself.

I love BPD. But I guess you had to be in a car with Bruce, SoCal, and Michelle at 4 AM to really appreciate the genius of that song. smile.gif One of my favs, especially the live version.

Speaking of "Latter Days" as an opener...I always have such mixed feelings about it...musically, it's so perfect, but it's so beautifully sad that when it's over, I'm already emotionally spent before the second song even begins. It's a tough song...it's such an amazing song, and people love it, so they kind of have to play it pretty often...but do you play it at the beginning and then basically have the audience emotionally recover for the next few songs? Or do you end with it and kind of leave them with a bittersweet sentiment as they leave the venue? Obviously the decision isn't that dramatic for K&L in the dressing room, I'm sure, but it's still one of those things...you write a song that's SO powerful....and then what do you do with it live?

I agree with TWCW though...probably my favorite OTR album opener.

"OHIO" does get my vote for my fave OtR release--it was the record that hooked me---but I really do think that "The Trumpet Chld" is gonna kick OtR to an entirely new level of success, exposure, etc.
