"... She made her way to investigate ... reached through the bars and began to draw the clutter into the cell, pausing to examine each piece as if searching for its name. Two copper cauldrons. A jewel box. A humble clay cup. Three musical instruments she did not know how to play -- a lynfr scorched with smoke, a karyn with a broken key, and a perys with only half its strings..."
That's a passage from a book I've been waiting to share with you for more than 30 years.
My first novel, Auralia's Colors, is being published by the WaterBrook Press branch of Random House, and it will be here in just a few weeks.
And while I wrote, Over the Rhine was the soundtrack. There are echoes of their songs all through the book, and I named the musical instruments mentioned in the story accordingly.
Anyway, since the story is about beauty, truth, and the power of art... the stuff of the Orchard... I thought I'd invite you all to check it out. I'll be handing Linford and Karin a sneak preview copy on Sunday, since they've had so much to do with inspiring it. I hope it gives back to them a bit of what they've given to me.
After all, I don't want to waste their time with reading they don't need.
