Anyone heard of or read this one by Denis Johnson? It was also released as a film with Billy Crudup, Samantha Morton, Denis Leary, Holly Hunter and Jack Black ... an all (indie) a barbiturate-driven noir. I heard about it last week on NPR.

Watched it, didn't like it. Felt like I wasted 2+hrs. It was about as exciting as watching paint dry. I hadn't wanted to walk out of a movie since "Pee Wee's Big Adventure". This one, I wish I had. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Seems like the majority of the film reviews agree with you. I picked up the book over the weekend and read over half of it in one sitting. I can see why it didn't translate well into film. The book's a very good and easy read.
