Desperado I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time
Steve, You've mentioned before your perceived similarites but personally, I'm not getting that connection when I hear IDWWYT. It's one of my favorites. But then, I love The Eagles' Desperado too. Slow, thoughtful...well, you know.
Glad you had a great time at a great show.

You gotta remember that I was in music theory/analysis classes for about 5 years...a lot of it is kind of useless but the ear training classes were really helpful...the upside is after taking all that, you can listen to a song as it's happening and figure out how to play it just from listening, or write out a chord chart or something like that, even if you don't have an instrument with you.
The downside is, you can't escape it, in that everything you hear, you're kind of subconsciously analyzing in your head. Its kind of like little kids wanting to take things apart just to see what's inside...I can't really stop my brain from doing the same thing when I hear music. The problem is, when two songs have basically the same chord progression, same piano intro, and same tempo, you can't really ignore it.

(when the Trumpet Child comes out, listen to the two songs back to back...trust me)
Or if you need another analogy...try watching a movie with a couple of film majors.

i told you so. laugh.gif
and it's not as simplistic as the size of the venue or the crowd, it's them. as i've said quite a few times recently, they are really "feeling it" right now. now more than ever. the "rawking" rolleyes.gif thing isn't new either, and the "trilogy" of firefly, ohio and b.p.d just kicks ass. everything just seems to be "clicking."
The rawking thing is pretty new though in the last few years...the only other time I'd seen them play like that was at the 20th Cenutry shows in '04, the last time they had a full-time guitarist. Jake did a pretty good job on guitar (for a bass player

), and that was really the high points of the set was when Linford was on bass...a really nice, full sound that I hadn't heard since that infamous '04 show. Kick-freaking-ass.
I hadn't heard "Last Night On Earth" since it was on their myspace page for about 2 hours that one day (still not really up for paying $15 for a CD with one song) but that may have been the best song of the set...it was like a stronger incarnation of "Show Me," really great song that deserved a far better fate. Hopefully that will stay in the setlist for awhile, since none of the new songs really seem to be able to match that or "BPD" or "Firefly" in intensity...(not passing judgment, just saying more "saucy" than "rawkin")
And the full band "Ohio"? That was a "why didn't they just do it like this in the first place?" moment...hopefully they'll record that version for the next live disc. Cool atmospheric guitar stuff from Jake on that one.
There were a lot of people waiting to talk to K&L afterwards so we didn't stay; it's more important they get to talk to new fans who may not have met them before, but I did see Mickey's wife (who sang with OTR for a few tunes) and talked to her for a few minutes...she was incredibly sweet, although seemed kind of surprised that anyone recognized her. Their son was with her, and he seemed to be a hyper little kid...you think he got that from his dad?
