I'm hoping it works in Media Player 9. Version 10 is too much of a hog for me to install on my home computer.

This reminds me of a story where a woman has a ham under her arm and complains about how she has nothing to eat(Sopranos reference).
So you want the band to support iTunes as well just because you chose a Mac? Isn't that trading one crappy media player for another? iTunes on Windows is a media hog supreme. I'd suggest either: 1) Get over it and use WMP on your Crapple 2) Go listen to it on a friends windows based computer 3) Don't listen to it and remain superior to the less of us mortals or 4) Donate the money to finance additional bandwith and/or and a programmer who would work on making an added stream or a stream that would be WMP and iTunes compatible.
While I"m not a big fan of WMP, I can see why OtR is using it to stream the Trumpet Child. I'll be listening on the Evil Empire's player even though I normally use Media Monkey.
Thank you to Drew and K&L for setting this up.

Actually, I was thinking of something open/non-proprietary that would allow each person to use their player of choice.

Actually, using a non-proprietary format would cost less than using MicroShaft. And WMP looks and runs like crap on a Windows machine too.

Geez, some people need a sarcasm meter installed in their heads.
Look, I do hate Microsoft crap and used this as a launching point to jab them. But I wasn't being entirely serious. I'd rather it be this way than not available at all. But there are formats that can be used that aren't locked into any particular company's stuff and if I had a choice, I'd rather it be on that. They generally look better, sound better and work better for more people than WMP stuff does. That is all.

Sorry, drew. I wasn't trying to down your efforts and the comment about OTR was merely that I would expect them to use a Mac in their real lives. Seems all the artistic folks I know do.

Either way, I'll try to be listening. I hope VLC will handle the stream well because the clunky old Wintendo box I have doesn't do streaming audio in any format all that well and WMP on a Mac sucks big time.

Sorry. Just speaking from experience. I worked in the music industry for 12 years. Virtually every artist, songwriter, photographer, graphic designer or other creative person I met was a Mac user. There are always exceptions, but that was the predominant state of things. It wasn't a "ought to" or "should" statement, just a "if I were to take a guess at what they use, this is what I'd expect" statement.

personally, they do use macs. but, i'm sure they realize most others don't.
i honestly don't think this decision was a made based on their personal preferences, it was probably what is the best way to make this available to the widest group of their fans possible. most people own widows based machines, with WMP installed, fact of life. afterall, this is a preview, a free preview, and not meant to be an audiophile type listening experience. why not take it as it is and just enjoy it without all the drama?

Well, it wasn't really a drama until a couple of people went off the deep end over what I thought was just an offhand, light, a wee bit snarky (and intended to be funny) comment about Microsoft stuff. I do plan to enjoy it if I'm able.
But as I said, there are formats that are open standard and usable by anyone on virtually any platform that don't cost any more (usually less) than a Microsoft solution, so I don't get where the "free" comment is really that relevant.

As stated, the stream works well on Macs as well as PCs.
Stiv -- it's encoding in Windows Media 9, so your WMP9 should be just fine.
We'll have preshow music for 10-15 minutes before the hour -- the stream will be live and you can test stuff at that time.

When the sensitivity meter isn't set to eleven, it's mildly funny. At least worth a chuckle. Lighten up, Francis.
Look drew, as I said, the comment wasn't meant to denigrate your efforts on this. I'm sorry it came off that way to you but it wasn't my intent at all.

I think "Nothing Is Innocent" is probably the best political song I've ever heard.
When I was young, we did this thing a few times a year at dusk-ish where my family would open up the windows (in the spring/summer), light some candles, and usually mom would pick out an LP to play. Lights out, and the whole family would sit and listen. When it was done, the kids could go out and play. Or mom and dad would join neighbors on the porch, and mom would take her acoustic guitar and people would sing. In the winter, myself or my brother or sister would also get to pick an album to play afterwards.
Yesterday, I went to visit my family and brought lunch. Afterwards we watched a movie, then I put in a mix CD I made with about half of Trumpet Child, some of Drunkards Prayer, and half of Live From Nowhere 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Back in the day, when mom was healthier, she'd meet me at Canal Street, which was halfway between our hometown and university for me. She saw OTR a handful of times back then, maybe even at their first Emery show before they trucked off to record Eve. Since then, she hasn't heard a ton from them.
So we all sat and listened to the CD.
It was great fun. Lots of discussion post-some songs.
And I think I made a Trumpet Child sale!
