Well, I know we've arrived now, let me tell you...
We arrived at 3rd & Lindsley very early (as usual) and the locals were drinking at the bar, so I walked inside to ask the barkeep if we could come on in, and she says, "Sure!" Well, less then five minutes later, some other fellow comes up to us and tells us the doors didn't open til after six and we had to wait outside. About that time, I look over and see Juicy who grins at us and says, "Hey! You're the folks from Alabama." I replied in the affirmative and he turns to the guy and says, "They can come on in." Then, he explains something to the effect that he's Karin & Linford's webmaster or something like that and he reads my posts on the Orchard, all the time.
Huge shout-outs to Juicy for letting us in! He's the man!
So ... we go on in and order an early dinner and get to listen to soundcheck. We brought friends with us, this time, who were not familiar with OtR: Beth & Joel. Beth is the principal at our daughter's middle school and we have known her for years because she goes to our church. She and her husband are newly married, as of the last holiday season, and we really enjoyed their company and the dinner they bought us, too! They seemed to enjoy the show.
We saw Karin & Linford and gave them the present we brought them and they expressed their thanks. After finishing dinner, our daughter (who just got her braces put on the day before) needed to clean out her braces, so she and my wife stepped into the restroom to take care of that. While they were in there, Karin walks over to the restroom and starts to walk in, but backs out instead. Afterwards, our daughter told me about her starting to come in, but that my wife didn't see her. I told her that she should have told Karin to come on in, they could have shared a moment there.

She laughed. Subsequently, I walked up to Karin and explained about our daughter just getting her braces and what was going on there, and she laughed and said that she was going to wash her hands and she just saw two very startled faces.

A little later, I stopped Karin again and asked if they could sing Born for my wife because we came to the show for her birthday, which is tomorrow. She said sure and immediately walked off to get Linford to make a note about it.
One thing that was a lot of fun, this show, was meeting some of the other folks that we've met online at the Orchard or at previous shows. It was great to finally meet Bill (whom I've traded music with), Jessica, Zayne, Roger, and Geof. Nice to see all you folks!
The opening act was Treva and the Suits and they were very enjoyable with a lot of very nice intricate guitar picking and some lovely harmony singing, too. We did not see any cds for sale of theirs which was a shame.
The second band was Swan Dive with Molly Felder, Mickey Grimm's wife, and Bill DeMain. They were a real surprise and quite a treat with their secret weapon, Jim Hope (I think?), who continuously switched between flute, tenor sax, harmonica, and steel guitar (there's a talented guy!!!). We picked up their unofficial bootleg of their new release, Until, and have been listening to it, today. My wife and I are all for make-out music in our house.
Finally, Karin & Linford took the stage with Mickey Grimm and Jake Bradley, opening with the sizzling Fever. Introducing the second number, Karin said, "Harriet came all the way up from Alabama for her birthday, tonight" which met with some applause and a surprised smile from my wife, who gave me a squeeze. The subsequent show was yet another scintillating demonstration of OtR that, once again, surpassed our expectations and made us decide that this was our favorite show (so far - this was our fourth). Highlights included the newer songs I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time (I absolutely love this song) and Nothing Is Innocent. I rather enjoyed hearing Last Night On Earth Again, since we didn't run out and buy Discount Fireworks. What I particularly loved about this show was the performance of five songs from Ohio, including the slow burn title song included in Karin's three-song run at the piano. The thing about this show that surprised us was how much harder it rocked. Mickey showed off some seriously amazing percussion, and I really enjoyed hearing Jake adding in some steel guitar. All in all, another masterpiece of a show from the best live band we've ever seen.
