Tour Diary April 14, 2007
Lookout Mountain
We often are asked to play private concerts, mostly at college venues. We accept and go against our intuition to encourage our host to open it to the public. Especially when we play an area we don’t get to all that often. Our concern is that there will needlessly be a low turn out.
We were pleasantly surprised last night. There was a great crowd and we had ourselves a great time. There was dancing and waltzing(!) in the aisles. White folks just a’clappin’ along. Grab the one and three folks and hang on for dear life! =) Thanks for being such a great audience. You are a big part of why we embrace this crazy lifestyle.
I know that somewhere out there is a photograph of Brandon, our tour manager, spontaneously (because he just can’t help himself sometimes) joining us onstage for the encore with a gianormous bass drum strapped to his torso. He found it back stage and thought, Yep, this is good. North Pole Man peaked last night.
And it was good.
Mickey is still waiting for a large candy cane striped pole to appear on stage during that number. He wants to open it up to the audience… He’s gonna be waiting for a long time.
But his hopes remain high.
So thanks folks for having us to your beautiful mountain top college. Quite the view, even if it was impaired somewhat by the inclement weather. Stunning.
While we were waiting for our call to soundcheck, we had some fun in the lobby with whatever we could find to keep our short little spans of attention engaged. I’ll include some short films soon that I’ve been making to show you just how dangerously bored we can get. (It’s a game of hurry up and wait, sometimes.)
For now, some more pics.
We’ll see you on the road,
With love,
Karin
PS thank you Drew for the tech support enabling me to do this tour diary.
