Sadly I think its face facts time. I imagine this is the last time OTR will come here, particularly without record company backing to actually release the records in Britain
Given the way Greenbelt has changed in the last couple of years I will be surprised if they get much attention, Cambridge Folk Festival would have been a better choice commercially (it made Gillian Welch in this country). The fact that in May the Tara Festival website isn't up doesn't bode well either.
I can hear everyone in America (& Karin & Linford I imagine) "OTR tour in Europe for the first time in years & all the locals can do is moan", unfortunatly whoever advised them to do this tour knows little about the business here. Maria Mckee has just toured in April. Most other "independent" US acts come in Spring or Autumn, gigging pretty well shuts down in August. The 2 weeks before the August Bank Holiday (Monday 27th this year) are the peak holiday times, the ferry from France I shall be on as OTR take the stage will be jam packed.
A good tour of 3 or 4 dates could be made up of clubs in London, Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, Cambridge, Glasgow, Manchester, & no doubt others I don't know, & decent buzz with local radio & a couple of relevant magazines & papers wouldn't be hard to generate with help from some local fans (there are obviously a few of us here after all), there are loads of people here making careers of this sort of circuit. Typical is Jane Taylor , a Bristol singer songwriter who on reflection would make a great support act.
http://www.janetaylor.co.uk/newsandgigs.html gives an idea of the places it might be worth considering.
If the above sounds like telling K&L their job then i apologise its intended as food for thought for next time, I hope there is a next time
