Come on Linford you can't tease us like that, shows in the UK? What, where, when?

I'm guessing Greenbelt as it is the week after Flevo, so perhaps a warm up show in Bristol? The Anson Rooms would be nice, OTR would sound great there, even better St Georges Church on Brandon Hill, brilliant setting & acoustics.

How many UK members here now, its a while since I visited.

Sadly at the time you wrote that it was 1.30am here so wasn't able to... would be interested in what was said though...

I can't imagine how difficult it must be trying to book dates here from Ohio, I used to find it hard enough in the same town!
I expect you are sorted by now but www.ents24.com might point you to who books where & has good venue lists for a number of towns.

Oh well never mind. Given the silence about UK members here I imagine getting a promoter for anything other than festival gigs was hoping for a bit much.

I guess 40 miles away is as close as OTR will ever get!

Note for K&L if you haven't heard her before check out Kathryn Williams you might like her

How about something in Liverpool? There are quite a few venues which would be fantastic.

See: Carling Academy

Not dropping any hints or anything, but it is just down the road from me rolleyes.gif

You are NOT ALONE is wanting OTR to play some UK (or Ireland) dates!! I was born and raised in the Buckeye State and love OTR. I am now living in Ireland and miss seeing them live. I saw they are playing two festivals in the UK, but I don't want to fly over to sit and watch them at a huge festival. I love to see them in their usual small pub setting. So I am joining your quest in seeing them play some "normal" shows in the UK (better yet Ireland)....whether this summer or for the release of Trumpet Child.

From the OtR tour dates page:

Sat Aug 25: Armagh city, Northern Ireland; Tara Music & Arts Festival

Yeah it's a festival, but hey, at least it's a festival in N. Ireland.

I wish I could visit the UK, specifically I've never been to Ireland.

Sadly I think its face facts time. I imagine this is the last time OTR will come here, particularly without record company backing to actually release the records in Britain

Given the way Greenbelt has changed in the last couple of years I will be surprised if they get much attention, Cambridge Folk Festival would have been a better choice commercially (it made Gillian Welch in this country). The fact that in May the Tara Festival website isn't up doesn't bode well either.

I can hear everyone in America (& Karin & Linford I imagine) "OTR tour in Europe for the first time in years & all the locals can do is moan", unfortunatly whoever advised them to do this tour knows little about the business here. Maria Mckee has just toured in April. Most other "independent" US acts come in Spring or Autumn, gigging pretty well shuts down in August. The 2 weeks before the August Bank Holiday (Monday 27th this year) are the peak holiday times, the ferry from France I shall be on as OTR take the stage will be jam packed.

A good tour of 3 or 4 dates could be made up of clubs in London, Bristol, Oxford, Birmingham, Cambridge, Glasgow, Manchester, & no doubt others I don't know, & decent buzz with local radio & a couple of relevant magazines & papers wouldn't be hard to generate with help from some local fans (there are obviously a few of us here after all), there are loads of people here making careers of this sort of circuit. Typical is Jane Taylor , a Bristol singer songwriter who on reflection would make a great support act. http://www.janetaylor.co.uk/newsandgigs.html gives an idea of the places it might be worth considering.

If the above sounds like telling K&L their job then i apologise its intended as food for thought for next time, I hope there is a next time

I completely over looked the Northern Ireland date! Thank you for pointing it out!! I went to the Tara Festival website and as tmuk stated, it not very informative. I have been searching online trying to see how or where to get tickets, but have been out of luck. I keep being directed back to the Tara Festival website which once again leads me no where. If I can get tickets, I will most definitely attend (even though festivals usually aren't my thing.)!

The Tara website has a number of updates:

http://www.tarafestival.com/2007/festival.htm

and you can now book tickets for OTR at:

http://www.marketplacearmagh.com/

I'm planning on driving up from Cork, probably with my wife and at least one other friend (maybe more). It's a long way but OTR in Ireland is a rare treat . What I'm a little dissapointed about is that the show on the Tara Festival site is listed as being just 1 hour. Surely OTR can't be coming all the way for just a 1 hour show. Can anyone offer me some re-assurance that the 12 hour round trip drive will be for more than just a 1 hour show?

It is just a festival set so I don't imagine they will get a full show in, any way there has to be some doubt about their coming at all I would have thought, Cheltenham Racecourse (site of Greenbelt) may well be underwater soon, don't know how it is in Holland or Ireland...

I hope whoever is booking them is in touch with this, as I don't imagine it gets on the news over there.

You are a true pessimist, I salute you for being the most miserable poster on here. The dates are nearly a month away, sure its a bit wet at the moment but plenty of time for it to cheer up. Dont even think about listening to him K&L.

The venue for the concert in Armagh is indoors....so no worries there.

This years Tara festival looks set for a sell out featuring artists like Over the Rhine who are also headling at Greenbelt, so you can leave your tent, wellies and raincoat at home!

It does look like just a 1 hour show, as there's a slot (unfilled) 15 minutes after the OtR end time. Maybe OtR could fill the other slot too smile.gif
