They opened the show with REM's The One I Love. There were some other interesting numbers as well. All in all, it was a very nice show.

gotta run for now...

it was a sweet show last night. very sweet. as chuck said, you know it was going to be "one of those nights" when they opened w/a cover like "the one i love." they also went pretty deep into "ohio" last night w/"long lost brother," a rockin' "b.p.d." (with jake on lead guitar), "what i'll remember most," "anything at all" with a sweet dedication to me) and "hometown boy" (dedicated to an absent & snowed in keith). we also got a killer "firefly" and my personal favorite "go down easy," along w/a john prine cover.

i'll post a full setlist & pics tomorrow. great to see everyone and those of you there in spirit only were missed by all. more later going out to play and go cd shopping with kent (a frightening thought for my wallet!) and buy some flowers.

also, i greatly enjoyed the opening set by "ellery," very nice set. very sweet people and damn, what a voice tasha has. more later...

i could be wrong, but i think it's the same deal and won't be vined 'til after "the trumpet child" is released.

This show was my fourth time seeing OTR in concert and as I've come to expect from them, they delivered an awesome show...

It was a great show last night! It was really great seeing everyone again!
Wishing I was there now!
Liza
I thought about you guys all night as I plucked magazines out of seat cushions and pushed the membership program. If the show was half as good as it was last night, I'll be surprised if ya'll can walk tomorrow.

Well Liza and to the rest of the residents of Orchard land---in more than 30 years of concert going--I have had a few memorable shows--for the most part--they all for the most part took place some years back: Randy Newman in Atlanta in the late 1970s, ditto for an Allman Brothers concert, a Marshall Tucker Band concert in Savannah in the late 1970s, Tift Merritt at Tall Stacks last October and now:

Over the Rhine--March 17, 2007 at Canal Street Tavern, Dayton, Ohio!!!!!

The band put on a good show on Friday but hoooooolllllyyyy cowwwwww!!!!!

Every element that could come together to make a live performance just incredible happened on this night--and it was not just me who said it---

Many if not most of the Apples in attendance agreed and the person whose opinion I trust most on this---was that of Mick Montgomery, owner/propreitor of the Canal Street Tavern and what he said about the show.

Mick and I were having a good conversation after the show and we both agreed that the show was just great--now Mick has run the CST since he opened the doors of the place back in 1981 and many great artists well known and no so well known have graced his stage, so he knows what of he speaks.

Mick broke our conversation to snag Liford and vigoursly shook Linford's hand--tellling Linford that Mick had many long time and new customers tell him that on their way out the door, they thought the show was incredible and Mick was one happy man----for a guy like Mick--happy customers is what he seeks and those customers were "happy, happy, happy!!!!!" (like Emeril Lagasse likes to say about great ingredients that make up a great dish) To have happy customers, makes a happy Mick!!

He also patted Linford on the shoulder too.

The elements that made this show so spectacular: Karin's voice was great thanks to perfectly mixed audio, there was this great energy vibe thing going on between and amongst the whole band and the back up musicians--Jake on guitars and stand up bass and Mickey on drums were both great....the selection of songs on the set list was a great overview of the band's music and the way each song was delivered--damn too bad this show was not recorded---it would have made its own great concert CD in and of itself!!!!!

I say that this show was a Dodge V-10 Hemi running at 125% on all ten cylinders and the road was a smokin'!!!!!!!

This show was nothing less than sublime----

I will be high for days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh bois and girls-'twas a good St. Paddy's Day for this lad!!!!! One of the best St. Paddy's Days I've had in many a year ye lads and bonnie fair Lasses!!!Twas the Luck o' the Irish that blessed this house tonight, for nary have fairer sounds been heard by these ears!!!!!

Thanks Karin, Linford, Jake and Mickey!!!!!!

"Ya shoulda been there!!!!"

Oh--it was great to meet the apples I had the pleasure of meeting this weekend!!! Thanks to you guys too!!!

I will post up the set list for the show later too--got to get to bed--if I can sleep!!!!!

Another thought on Canal Street Tavern owner's comments on Saturday's OtR show---he told me that it was one of the best shows of OtR's at CST he had seen and he was one of the first people to give OtR a shot at performing from their earliest days---he has seen them play many times at his establishment.

It was an excellent weekend--and it does seem--a good time was had by all!!!!

What a f*cking rockin' good time!

Of the lineups I've seen K&L with, I haven to say that these two musicians are unbelievably talented. I lurve the upright bass -- and Mickey Grimm can have my first born child. That effin' drum solo had me literally shaking. . . .

And thanks to all the Apples. It was good to see you. It was great to meet you. Next time I'm gonna have to work on carving more time out to play with all the lovely peoples.

I really appreciate you grabbing us Sidbillies seats Billiam -- and it was soooo good to see everybody there (of course others were missed.) I have a ton of thoughts and shite still whirling around my skull, but I'm going to save it up for about a week. wink.gif

See you all next time!

Can anyone post an accurate setlist for this show?
Jeanne
I'm not sure this is entirely accurate, but I think it was pretty much like this. (I was going to write it down, but forgot to bring any paper with me.):

The One I Love
All I Need Is Everything
Hometown Boy
Spark
Hush Now
Long Lost Brother
Goodbye Charles
Go Down Easy
Who Am I Kiddin'
We're Gonna Pull Through
Everybody Wants To Feel Like You

Little Blue River/In The Garden
Anything At All
Last Night On Earth
Orphan Girl
Firefly
B.P.D.
North Pole Man
If A Song Could Be President
ChuckS
Thanks, Jeanne - I guess we can edit it if need be when the recording eventually gets vined.

*note: "firefly" and "b.p.d." were moved down to after "orphan girl" and "goodbye charles" was inserted before "go down easy" (to give karin time to recover from mickeys story) and "only god can save us now" was cut from the encore.

*the best i can remember the only change is that "jesus in n.o." was cut.

I'm pretty sad that I missed these shows. they sound amazing.

and I really want to hear Jake play that.
Alas.
Excellent shows anyway. Blow my expectations out the doors. Maybe it'd been too long since I went to a CST show.

I want the vine for Mickey's joke. That was one of the funniest things I have ever heard.

Even the inadvertent part was funny.

They were both great shows---I was "happy, happy, happy" all the following week--it put me in a good mood to go do my training down in Louisville, KY--man that is a great town--but I do hate to drive there though!!!!

It is great the first night's show was recorded but too bad the Saturday night show was not---there was a really great vibe going on with the whole group that while very good on Friday---was just so much better on Saturday night----all four of them were in a major grove on Saturday night!!!!!!!

I am looking forward to seeing them at the 20th Century--which for me will be a whole new deal--I have seen shows for twenty years at Canal Street and it kinda feels like home--but seeing them at a new venue (for me) will change the dynamic---

Look forward to seeing you all at those shows----
