I've really been enjoying some of the tracks off 'Little Peppermints'... Streets of Soho, Anna, Merry-Go-Round (despite is humerous though slightly disappointing ending). What *great* performances...

Then I listen to tracks on 'Big Dream Boulevard'. which tend towards (in comparison) a much more slick production which I think is not a good thing in this case. 'Helpless Kiss' is a great song... but it sounds like 10,000 maniacs pop and does a good job of completely covering what I consider her strengths. Its almost the same thing on "Dandilion' and 'Diamond on your Hand'...

I hope she doesnt continue to 'refine' her music further into overproduced pop that sounds just like all the other soft-rock junk out there.

Little Peppermints was recorded live.

I love the production on Big Dream Boulevard, I think it complements her vocals very well! smile.gif

yes... obviously live. :-)

have you given SOLAS a listen... I guess she was opening for them?

She is my newfound obsession. I just ordered all three albums.
Listening to her music on her website sucked me in bigtime.
She sounds a bit like a young Natalie Merchant, no?
The lyrics are astounding. Also on this website they include guitar tabs for her songs. How awesome is that?
I see where the site is managed by Pattynet people. Cool.
Need to listen to SOLAS.

Obvious to you Steve, but possibly not to the general forumship reading along at home. smile.gif

No, I haven't heard Solas actually. If you're not aware, Antje has an earlier studio album called Boys, Flowers, Miles. I didn't buy it myself because it has a lot of the same songs as BDB, but based on your comments you might enjoy it more -- I think the production is pretty bare bones.

Yes, my pal Gillian who invented and maintains the PattyNet forum also designed the websites for Antje and Anais Mitchell (among others) and she badgered me until I listened to both of them. She has wonderful taste in music. smile.gif

Steve,
I just listened to Solas music on their website. Very nice.
And lo and behold...they played Boulder a month ago.
Late again. This has been my story.
kent
And Sue and I get to see her at The Gingko Coffehouse in St. Paul a week from today, 3/22.
A nice little intimate place, that has just started hosting concerts.
If we get there early enough we should be able to grab the closest couch to the stage wink.gif
I plan on buying what I don't have yet of hers there.
Trudes
Good for you Kent.
Grab some pictures if that's allowed. Does she usually stay for a meet and greet or signing?

I've talked to her after all three shows I've gone to, and she even came over to say hi to me at the Lizard Lounge when Patty Griffin played there. She's very friendly and enjoys talking to fans, and also doesn't mind posing for photos. Here's one I took of Anais and her, who are kinda like Mutt & Jeff only prettier:

I checked her tour schedule and she is not coming near me.
Kent..will you let her know someone is waiting for her in Boulder to get her CD signed? angeliccat.gif

I think she will be in Boston soon, I am going to have to try and see her...

Sue and I went to a wonderful show at the Gingko Coffeehouse in St. Paul tonight.
Antje was fun and very talkative in front of a almost full for a coffeehouse crowd.
I talked with her before and after the show, she told me I was so Minnesotan. Ha!
She played 2 sets, the first about an hour long, the second about 30 minutes. She played most of
Big Dream Boulevard, 3 new ones, a Leonard Cohen cover, and told some good stories in between.
She finished up her set with Opium, Dublin Boys and one of my faves- Sex Bandaid.
Very enjoyable evening. I told she needed to head your way Trudes.
And she said hi Keith!.

Thanks, Kent! So glad you had an opportunity to see her. smile.gif

Nice. Thank you indeed. I love her stuff....

I saw her perform in NYC Thursday before she left for her European dates, she was wonderful! She said that she's in love for the first time in her life smile.gif and the new song Coney Island was written about that relationship.

I think there were about 40 of us there at Mo Pitkin's for her show compared to 20 last year, so that's progress!

My PattyPalŪ Gerry and I saw Antje tonight at the Uptown Coffeehouse in Riverside NY, a nice little venue where he and I had seen her play about a year ago. She played two sets, introduced us to her new Gibson Hummingbird guitar (which sounded great) and announced she would be recording a new album this Spring -- YAY!! She said the album will be "30% happier" than Big Dream Boulevard, since it will have three happy songs (out of ten) that she's written since she fell in love for the first time in her life about 10 months ago. Antje looked and sounded wonderful, I think her new beau and the $50K she received for the Bank of America TV ad that used her song Merry Go Round have both really lifted her spirits. She even did a great little upbeat Gershwin tune for her encore.

Gerry got some great photos & video and I got a soundboard + mics recording of the show, so stay tuned!

woo HOO!!

I dig the song 'Reasonland' here. Not a bad version of 'Anna' either.
