Any Shakespeare buffs out there? I always love reading this particular play on this particular day. Yes, I am fully aware that I AM A DORK.

Juliu Caesar Act I Scene II

CAESAR:
Who is it in the press that calls on me?
I hear a tongue, shriller than all the music,
Cry 'Caesar!' Speak; Caesar is turn'd to hear.

Soothsayer:
Beware the ides of March.

CAESAR:
What man is that?

BRUTUS:
A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March.

CAESAR:
Set him before me; let me see his face.

CASSIUS:
Fellow, come from the throng; look upon Caesar.

CAESAR:
What say'st thou to me now? speak once again.

Soothsayer:
Beware the ides of March.

CAESAR:
He is a dreamer; let us leave him: pass.

I too must be a dork...Shakes and I are tight!

Actually it has been one of my favorite things about living in Chicago! The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre. If you come to Chicago I'll take you...

So far my favorite production there...Henry V.

Imagine at the end a white Henry V flashes on a black screen...to soft, sad music it fades out...only to reveal later the image of the Vietnam Memorial...AMAZING...

I’ll take you up on that sometime.

I lived in Chicago for a couple of years working in theatre (unfortunately never at the CST) I still get up there quite often. My friends don’t like Shakespeare or theatre for that matter so I rarely have the chance to take in a show.

What part of the city do you live in?

Sorry for butting in here....... I love a good play.

[Music]

JESSICA
I am never merry when I hear sweet music.

LORENZO
The reason is, your spirits are attentive:
For do but note a wild and wanton herd,
Or race of youthful and unhandled colts,
Fetching mad bounds, bellowing and neighing loud,
Which is the hot condition of their blood;
If they but hear perchance a trumpet sound,
Or any air of music touch their ears,
You shall perceive them make a mutual stand,
Their savage eyes turn'd to a modest gaze
By the sweet power of music: therefore the poet
Did feign that Orpheus drew trees, stones and floods;
Since nought so stockish, hard and full of rage,
But music for the time doth change his nature.
The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems and spoils;
The motions of his spirit are dull as night
And his affections dark as Erebus:
Let no such man be trusted. Mark the music.

Merchant of Venice: Act 5, Scene 1

Mark the Music.... indeed.

Not only did you not butt-in but the quote you chose really helped me gain a new perspective on something. “Julius Caesar” makes reference to this as well but the quote your choice really got me thinking.

I’ve been working with my current boss for about 4 months now but we just can’t seem to communicate effectively. I don’t think she’s a terrible boss or a bad person she’s very professional & capable so I just chalked it up to the fact that we are extremely different people. I love music, art, movies, theatre, travel & books – she think these are all a waste of time. Sure it seems crazy to me, primarily because we work in a college bookstore, but also because it just can’t be natural.

I’ve been struggling to identify what it is that makes it so hard for me to work with her & the fact is I just don’t trust her, rightly or wrongly, it’s just so visceral I couldn’t identify it before. At least now I can work on it.

Thanks

I live on the Northside of the city in Uptown, about 1 mile north of Wrigley! I love it here! The CST moved to Navy Pier and have a beautiful location...love it!
