My wife and I watched this, last Friday night, and found it a bit hard to follow.

The overlap between reality and dreaming really left you wondering which you were in, by the end of the film. Another thing that I personally found confusing was that the characters would switch between French, Spanish, and English, sometimes in the same conversation. All in all, I enjoyed the movie for what it was: a clever, imaginative, (very) French film from Michel Gondry. However, I enjoyed Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, much more!

We saw this last week as well. I thought it was a beautiful and moving film. Perhaps because I sometimes suffer from the same issues as the main character*, I had little trouble gettin swept up in his emotional life and following most of which reality was which. I loved that his dream Stephanie was so very much the same, but completely other as well, simply by being the same character minus all her defenses. His work dreams were classic. Been there. I plan to watch it again. Though I thoroughly enjoyed EternalSOTSM, it's plot had less base in reality for me. While I alowed the suspension of disbelief for the enjoyment of the film, my mind knows there's no way to wipe one person clean from one's memory without severe brain repercussions. I don't see legal lobotomizing for memory loss in our futures either. I loved how the memories were linked in the film, but the dreams in SOS seemed to follow more closely how my own mind works.

*I often wake within my dreams, move my body IRL as I would have in my dreams, and have incredible difficulty deciphering which things are real and which are dreamt upon waking. This can be a real problem in my memory, as I have vivid memories of things having happened that, in other people's reality, never did.
