Saw the trailer for
this when I saw
Pan's Labyrinth on Saturday. It looks fantabulous! An ensemble cast: Albert Finney, Michael Gambon (Dumbledore), Ioan Gruffud (A&E's Horation Hornblower series), Thomas Clarkson (The Holiday, The Illusionist). I'm thinking this is one that would be good for EVERYONE to see.

I saw it last night. A very, very good movie ... one that even this Pagan recommends. Wilberforce & Pitt's crusade for the abolition of England's involvement in the slave trade was a long one, but they did not give up. It's a film that moved me to my core. The cinematography is outstanding and the actors all wonderfully cast. It's a part of history that I knew little of. Go see it!

I can't believe that NO ONE in the Orchard has seen this one yet. I'm telling you it's a MUST SEE!

Saw it. Loved it.

My only wish was that they could have delved more into the backstory of the man that wrote the song.
I liked how Wilberforce was portrayed as a real human being with his own struggles and addictions while fighting for something he strongly believed. I don't know the real story well enough to know the accuracy of the events.
Anyone know more?

I went to a funeral this morning, and at the close of the service we all sang "Amazing Grace." As I sang those 4 verses from memory, goosebumps rose on my arms. That's not unusual as it is probably my favorite of all hymns. What was unusual was what the words meant today as I thought of this film while singing.
"Amazing grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me."
Albert Finney was simply incredible ... incredible!
