I just discovered this fantastic show on VH1 Classic. I guess it's been around since 1997, but new to me. From their site:

"A British-made series charting the creative process behind some of pop's most influential releases features Paul Simon's `Graceland,' Stevie Wonder's `Songs in the Key of Life,' the Grateful Dead's `American Beauty,' the Band's `The Band' and Jimi Hendrix's `Electric Ladyland.' Each hourlong program blends comments by artists and technicians with performance footage and videos."

The episode I saw tonight was on "The Joshua Tree." It was very very cool. Not only did the band and others talk about writing and recording the songs, but they sat down at the mixing board with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois and dissected the various tracks that compose the songs. Fascinating!

DVR material for me for about a year now Steve. I never miss a show. Especially Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Quality television (finally)!

A lot of these are available on DVD very cheaply. I've seen the Joshua Tree one for as low as $7. They're pretty interesting though...I really liked the Bat Out Of Hell one. I think there's one on Queen's A Night At The Opera but I haven't seen it yet.

I have Night at the Opera on DVR at the moment. I've watched it three or four times. Amazing. Gave me a whole new perspective on that "classic album".

Paul Simon's "Graceland" is on tonight. What a great show. This was already one of my favorite cds, I love it even more the more I know about it...

yeah, I saw part of the Graceland one yesterday before I had to leave. Cool album, although I'd love to see a similar special on "Rhythm Of The Saints." From a musical and recording standpoint, I think that album would be even more interesting to learn about...probably my favorite Simon album. smile.gif

I like that they're airing these specials though...I liked the Bat Out Of Hell one a lot too.
