I've been told that there was discussion about the new version of the forum software during the Arnold's dinner on Saturday, December 16. I'm sorry I couldn't be there to hear it first-hand, but want to provide this thread to discuss what was brought up so we can address it!

* since the new update, some of us are having a problem with having to have to sign in each time we enter the orchard b/c our saved sign-in info is not being retained.
* also, there was talk of having the "rate the members" feature turned off.

I am experiencing the need to re-login with each visit and am exploring options for fixing it. Any findings will be reported here. While I am exploring, please bear in mind that it cannot hurt to delete your browser cache and cookies, and that may even help the problem. On Internet Explorer 7, go to Tools->Internet Options and click the "Delete..." button under the Browsing History section. On the next page, click "Delete files..." and "Delete cookies...", then close and re-open your browser.
I will keep tuned into the potential issue of ratings. I'm not sure it's time to do anything about it yet (or, frankly, if there is even anything to do about it -- I'm not yet sure if ratings can be disabled, if that's the route we choose to go). I want to hear people's thoughts about it.

I currently have five out of five stars, and I'm happy about that.
I also use Firefox to browse, and my name and password are saved each time I log in.

I've had to relog in a couple times, but not every time.
I currently have a 5-star rating as well, which makes me think there must be something wrong with the rating system...
I think I like some of the new toys here, but I've not truly explored the options.

I had to re-login once or twice, but it's not too annoying. Certainly not every time.

i've been having to re-login with other websites, too. i use ie 6 at work at ie7 at home, and they're both doing it to me. i thought it was a bigger issue than just the orchard?

It could be larger than our little Orchard. I'm using IE7 as well. Try clearing cookies & cache as indicated above. I did so and haven't had to re-login yet.

I've determined how to disable the MEMBER RATINGS, if that's what we decide to do... It is an option that we can globally disable.
Admin->Management->Member Settings->Allow members to rate each other?

good points kelly,
i really don't see any point on all the stuff on the right side, and i'm not sure of the comments
section on the right side, shouldn't that be only viewable to the person receiving the comments and not everybody else?
and if you have any comments it usually is in the form of a PM anyway
and the ratings thing can go away too- either people are 5 stars or unrated right now, and i dont think anybody is going to give someone a 1-2-3 or 4 star rating anyway.
just some thoughts
but i do like the new boards drew

I thought the ratings were kind of like iTunes, you know, so we can sort our friends and put them in a playlist.

I say axe the ratings though...if we get a rogue star-giver goin' nuts, it'll be total chaos.

I miss the ratings system...
I used to be a 5-star person, and now I'm just unrated
Plus, it was disabled before I was able to give Kent the 3-star rating he was so asking for!
I think if there's going to be a "friends" list, there should be an "enemies" option too (something lacking at MySpace). This will make it easier to set up little Orchard gangs, like the "Apples" and the "Peaches" and perhaps the "Speckled Dogs" or "Scampering Rats", and then at concerts we can throw fruits at the rival Orchard gangs in a sort of fruity gang warfare...
just a thought. Bitch.

Ya know, maybe it's just the barbituates and alcohol talking, but I really like the idea of an enemies list. Too bad it can't be implemented!
Yeah, that chat solution had some, well, gaping security holes. I'm still exploring options, though!

Is anyone else having trouble editing your signature? (In My Controls) I added a new link to my signature but it won't let me stack the links like before...I have to have them all on one line; and I can't choose size or color font. I didn't used to have a problem. I read everything in the help link and it still didn't work right.

I've made a couple behind-the-scenes changes that should reduce or remove the need to re-log-in each time you visit the Orchard. You MAY have to log in again, but the expected behavior is that once you've done that, it should keep you logged in for the timeout period.
In fixing this bug, I've had to get rid of a couple other (hopefully little-used) 'paths' to get into the Orchard. You USED to be able to get here by the following URLs:
http://www.overtherhine.com/orchard,
http://www.overtherhine.com/invboard,
http://www.overtherhine.com/forum, and
http://www.overtherhine.com/forums.
As of now, the only official way to get to this forum is through http://www.overtherhine.com/orchard -- the rest of the routes should be unavailable now. This is by far the most publicized route, so hopefully no one will encounter any problems. Check your bookmarks.
I believe I have identified the issue with PMs generating an error, and have taken steps to fix it (there was a missing table that needed to be created). Please let me know if you see the PM error again.
ACP -> SQL Toolbox & in the lower box run query, "ALTER TABLE `ibf_pm_logs` ADD `pm_sent_copy` INT( 11 ) NULL;" (no quotes)

Search words less than 4 characters aren't allowed by InVision BB (the program used to host the orchard).

Really dumb limitation of an otherwise excellent search facility.
