I know I'm probably gonna take some for this, but I can't help it. I watched the trailer and I can't wait.......

Rocky Balboa
Brookd
oh sweet mother of satan...
DIE ALREADY WHY WON'T YOU DIE?!!
let me guess, he's fighting someone from al queda? or does he take on the ultimate opponant and spends the movie fighting DEATH ITSELF?
can't wait to not see this one. I made a promise after V that I would not put myself through that again...

I can't believe it, but I"m agreeing with Brookd again. Rocky should have died off with Rocky 4. That was a travesty in and of itself. I can't believe you actually watched 5 though Brookd.

Then again, they did make six trillion Police Academy movies.
GhostWriter
I think this one is appealing to my mid-life crisis. I don't expect you young-uns to understand! laugh.gif

Go Rocky! biggrin.gif

So watch "The Big Chill" and save 9 bucks then. Better movie, better music mostly likely, and much better acting.

Jimbo, you're killin me! I agree with Brookd too! Wait ... wait ... wait ... okay, Earth is still on its axis!

Um, yeah ... if Dolph Lundgren's character would have went all Perestroika on him and let him die in the ring ... that'd be the perfect way to have left off.

In that Happy Days episode ... how many times did Fonzie jump the shark?

And, agree again ... John, the Big Chill sounds like a great idea. $4 for the BallBuster rental, that leaves you a fiver for a bag of Cheetos and some cheap wine!

Regardless of whether it's decent or not, this does seem to fall under the category of "You mean they couldn't find anything more worthwhile to blow a $20 million budget on?"

Hey, at least Snakes On A Plane wasn't a sequel. wink.gif

Yeah, but don't forget.... Stallone is a "made man" in Hollywood... he can do whatever he wants (for better or worse) along with all the other people who think they know how to make movies.

Having said that......

Cut me Mick.. biggrin.gif
WalrusOct9
I suppose...although it's been years (to my memory) since he's done any movies that were really successful.

Then again, I was a baby while all the Rocky sequels were happening, so I didn't really live those movies as they happened, like some people, so I guess I'm not really attached to the character all that much.

It's just like...a 60 year old Stallone making another Rocky and another Rambo movie...I dunno. I feel the same way about a 65 year old Harrison Ford doing another Indiana Jones movie. 60 may be the new 40, but...I dunno. I can't help but be skeptical.

Could be the other way 'round, John ... some made man made Rocky an offer he couldn't refuse. Lest he sleep wit' da fishes.

Ya big Gumba! You probably thought the first 5 Rocky films were documentaries, didn't ya?

(by the way... turn on your TV and watch the Teal Warriors play tonight!)
Joel the Conner
One big difference with Indiana Jones and Rocky is that 2 of the 3 I.J. movies were just awesome. I liked only 2 of the Rocky movies.

I actually liked the first 4, but I was too young to have much in the way of discerning tastes at the time. loved the first 2 Rambos too. Rocky V and Rambo III did nothing but bring the whole series down.

what was that parody movie that had an ad for Rocky 20? (or something like that)
Joel the Conner
"Airplane" had that add on the wall in the airport

Spaceballs also made reference to Rocky 5...thousand.
Joel the Conner
oh...maybe it was Spaceballs and not Airplane. I very easily could be wrong.

Confirmed Facts about Rocky Balboa from Wikipedia.

Oh no, I will not let this thead slip away......

1. Antonio Tarver, of Orlando, Florida, will play the role of the champion, Mason 'The Line' Dixon, Rocky's ring opponent.

2. Though Talia Shire's character Adrian dies at the beginning of the film, Shire will still be reprising her role in flashbacks of the film (thought I'd try the spoiler feature!)

3. Rocky's son, Rocky Jr. (Robert) Balboa, will own a corporation. Sage Stallone will not reprise his role from Rocky V; actor Milo Ventimiglia, of Gilmore Girls and Heroes fame, will take over instead.[5]

4. Burt Young, Paulie in the series, as well as the composer Bill Conti, who has composed the music for every Rocky movie except Rocky IV, are both returning.

5. Tony Burton, who played Tony Duke throughout the Rocky saga, will return as Rocky's trainer.

6. Three Six Mafia, who won an Oscar for best song in 2006, will also appear on the Rocky Balboa soundtrack.

7. More time has elapsed between the fifth and sixth installment of the "Rocky" franchise than between the original film and Rocky V.

8. Estimated budget for this film is $24,000,000 USD.

Well, fine. If you want the whole "atmosphere" and all that. Hey, can you see us in the audience?

I don't think so. The angle of the camera was a bit limited for any panning.

How cool would it be though for someone to add in video of the apples at Arnolds?

I'm seeing it on the 26th! I'm *so* excited!! Actually, I'm not, but my buddy is. That's what friends are for, right? I heard a great review the other day, "It's not as bad as you're expecting it to be." If that doesn't say Oscar, what does?

Somehow I never pictured any of these Rocky movies winning any Oscars. Nice to hear that there are still friends in the world that will sacrifice to support "chumps" like me (and your friend). Great holiday spirit Steve. Kudos to you!

p.s. and no, I haven't seen it yet. Soon.....

So...I saw Rocky this afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised! I actually enjoyed it a great deal. I maybe wanted a little more fighting because, well, it was Rocky, but it was a fun show! Plus, there's a great cameo right before the big fight. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, John!

I figured I had to dig up this thread as I FINALLY saw this. I don't get out to the theaters much, so when it came out on dvd, I had to get it.

LOVED IT!

Although was unavoidably a tad formulaic and familiar (and maybe a hint of patronizing), I thought he did a great job of keeping it interesting and fun! smile.gif

Go Rocky!

wait... are you telling us that, after all that hubabaloo about "I CAN'T WAIT" till it's out and all that shit, even starting a whole thread in your excitement, you then proceeded to wait 4+ MONTHS to see this??? please accept this cyber-slap-upside-the-head from me!

that's exactly what I'm telling you. dry.gif

Takes quite a flick for me to go out to the theaters... Maybe two or three a year. As much as I was looking forward to it, the rest of my family was not quite so excited. Thus the wait for the DVD.

If that's alright with YOU brook... rolleyes.gif
