Anyone else going to check this out this weekend? We're going tonight, if anyone's curious I'll give my thoughts tonight when I get home.

I like it. A different vibe to the previous films, much darker in tone and without any of the gizmos and gimmicks that were the trademark of so many Bond films. (John Cleese's character, or any variant thereof, didn't even appear in the film)
I was kind of hoping for a bit more of the whole "how Bond became Bond" thing that was promoted in the trailers and ads, but I still thought it was a solid film, and Daniel Craig did a good job as Bond. I think fans of the last few Bond flicks may have a harder time getting into this one simply because it's less of a fun movie with explosions and more of a true suspense/action/spy movie.
I do think fans of the original Connery-era flicks will really dig this one.

I REALLY liked
Casino Royale. This was my first Bond movie experience, and I get the feeling I'll be disappointed if I explore the earlier films. The animated sequence during the opening credits is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time; somebody, somewhere should win an award for that alone. Daniel Craig was fantastic as Bond; Eva Green was stunning as the first really smart Bond girl of all time; and Judi Dench, as always, was impeccable as M. Great plot, great dialogue, and plenty of eye candy for boys and girls of all persuasions.

Holy cow, I totally enjoyed
Casino Royale! My godson and I went last night, and we both walked out nearly speechless. It was more of a classic Bond film, with no gadgets (unless you could the defibrillator) and more honest-to-goodness action. I'm going out on a limb to say that Daniel Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery. Pierce

i don't know daniel craig from anyone, and i heard that clive owen was up for the part. being a clive owen fan, i said before the start of the movie that i wish he had been in the role.
til i saw the movie.
this was my first bond film, too, and i liked the ruggedness of craig, the piercing blue eyes, etc. i want to watch others, but i too am afraid i'll be disappointed.

My advice would be to watch the older, Sean Connery films. They're the ones that
Casino Royale is closest to.

Rent the bond films! Rent them now! Not one of them, but all of them! In order!
I'm eager to see this film, and I bet it's great... but no matter what anyone says, Sean Connery will always be the James Bond starting quarterback.

Oh sister... he's badass. If you're a Snatch-y kind of movie fan rent Layer Cake.
Then there's his small role as the priest in Elizabeth (gawd i love that movie).
Then there's Mother - that was tripadylic as far as content goes.
I've yet to see Enduring Love, and I don't know why as I love Samantha Morton and Rhys Ivans as well.
He's also in the new flick Infamous - which is basically another version of Capote that was filming around the same time as Capote, he plays the killer dude.
There's even more, lots more. He's just, dashing, and I'm thrilled he's getting full-blown US exposure now. Hopefully I'll catch Casino Royale this weekend.

My son was back from college and went to see it with his dad today, and they both liked it very much. Mike said that he liked it more than any of the others post Sean Connery, thought the story was good, and that the James Bond character seemed to have a lot more scope than he's seen in a long time.

I liked Daniel Craig a lot--he's definitely a completely different take on the whole "Bond" persona. I loved him in Layer Cake, and never doubted that he would make a fantastic Bond. As for the movie--I enjoyed it a great deal, but it was maybe 15 minutes too long. I thought they just drug out everything at the end when they could have tightened it up a bit. In terms of where it stands in the Bond franchise, I think the obvious comparison is to Batman Begins. Both movies restarted a franchise that was based on action, humor, and styled, and injected a darker, more emotional and human feel. As much as I like the old flicks, this satisfied me more than any of the other ones (well, other than the horror I felt when he destroyed his Aston Martin DBS--and when I heard they totaled *three* of them in filming it. Seriously, just wreck two and let me keep the third...).

so, no longer a bond-virgin?
i'd agree about the old films - they're good, but i think the latest is the best by far.

This was great! He's a great Bond. I loved Connery and Moore best, couldn't stand Dalton and was indifferent about Brosnan. I think there was another dude, can't remember, never saw that one. Anyway, Craig was awesome. I loved the no-b.s. Bond, didn't miss the suave, charming man stuff. And the action was super fun. Bond villians are rad too - the Le Cheffe dude was lower key than I'm used to, but fun none the less.
And take-out was a vegi taco salad.

You are searching for the name George Lazenby, who did "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Connery was in the middle of a contract/salary dispute and so they brought in Lazenby for one picture. Needless to say, he didn't go over too well so they brought back Connery and ponied up. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was a mediocre Bond film, better than some of the Moore tripe and the last Connery Bond film, but not as good as the early Connery bond films and the Brosnan ones, IMO.

Wow........ this was amazing. I've seen ALL the Bond flicks over the years and, although I'm not prepared to say this is the best, it's right up there!
I agree 100% with Troy... this is a bad, bad, man. In the first 20 minutes of the movie I leaned over to Karen and said "this guy is like Jack Bauer, only on speed and much cooler. And I freaking LOVE Jack Bauer.
So much to say about this one..... wow..... I will make a couple observations in spoiler form...
That freaking chase scene on foot was one of the greatest chase scenes I've ever seen!!!
Also, I can see how the writer of this part of Bond's history (the "pre-Bond" if you will) gave Bond a great reason to treat people (and women) with absolutely NO trust whatever. "lesson learned" as M said.
