So I'm looking through the topics and can't seem to find one dedicated to the best show on TV. Yeah, I know there's one about the BBC version, but the NBC incarnation of the Office has, in my humble opinion, far and away exceeded its predecessor. Is there anyone else out there who, like me, is way too invested in this show?

i think it's about as close as we are gonna get to "seinfield," i love it. more and more every show.

i never remember what nite it's on. but i do like it!

thursdays. got it.

Jim and Pam just absolutely slay me. I think that's why I like the US version so much more than the British. Dawn and whatever the guy's name was just didn't have the charisma that these two do. The phone conversation tonight almost made me cry (OK, not really, but you get my drift). Plus, I absolutely love Dwight and how delightfully strange he is--and his hooking up with Angela make it even so much better. The side characters are so cool as well--Michael and his loathing of Toby. Ryan and his stalker Kelly... Such good stuff!!!

Love it. I missed the first season, and missed most of the second, but I saw a few and liked it so much that I downloaded the rest of the season and watched it all. smile.gif

jim and pam make my heart skip a beat.

the show has taken a real turn in the 3rd season, i think. dwight is more, somehow; pam and michael and jim and ryan and everyone are really letting us see themselves, don't you think? it's like their personalities are ramped up this year.

the show makes me feel good and uncomfortable and awkward. i love it!

here's my dilemma: i have book club on thursday night. i did not read the book for book club. and i will miss the office. do i go to book club?
keith from ny
I was curious about the British version of this show since my son loves it, so last year I watched the first three episodes on DVD, which I didn't think very much of. But since a few people here really like it, I downloaded the first six episodes of the U.S. version from iTunes. So far I've watched only the first episode, but my initial reaction is pretty much the same as to the UK version -- mainly, that anyone who acted like the boss on that show wouldn't last a week in the business world. I know it's a caricature, and I'm not saying there isn't a ridiculous amount of mismanagement, subordinate abuse and general BS in the corporate world (I think Dilbert is hilarious and right on target), but that character is just a totally incompetent asshole that any executive would see through and replace in 10 minutes flat. I also thought Ricky Gervais was more convincing in the role than this guy (whoever he is). Don't really have a feel for the other characters yet.

I'll watch a few more episodes, but so far I just don't get the attraction. But then, I am just about the pickiest TV watcher I know...

Go to book club. Thursday's is a re-run of the season premiere. Unless, of course, you missed the season premiere. Then screw book club, it's the freakin' Office!

book club and my friends was just what i needed. i can't believe i almost put television in front of people. wow. the fact that last night's episode was a repeat was a good reminder that even if it last night's episode wasn't a "rerun" -- it would be rerun another time. *sigh*

If you go to the office website, the NBC version, you can send a message from Dwight to someones phone. There are several to chose from and they are pretty good. I ended up sending one to myself and forgot about it, and so I checked my voicemail later that night first checking the phone # and was like who the heck do I know at that area code. Needless to say I pulled one on myself.
LazyAsSin
The cold opening on Thursday when Jim was faxing messages to Dwight from "future Dwight" made me laugh very very hard.
kab
in addition to being able to watch the entire "producer's cut" episode on nbc.com, youtube has the aired versions. even though i've been having to work on thursday nights, i'm still getting to see the episodes! yay! can't wait for next week to see how the merger goes...
LazyAsSin
Jim is such a dork.

the product placement was awful last night - really bothersome. i guess 30 rock is similar. angrycat.gif wacko.gif

I don't know about that, but I really expected last night's episode to be funnier than it was. Oh well...
margarita
dude! I am so right there with you!
We taped Earl and The Office since they're on while I'm in class. I came home and happily ff'd through commercials only to find they had snuck them in on me by force! I felt dirty.

stinky bastards.

Product placement in shows doesn't bother me very nearly as much as it used to- especially shows as good as the Office because, chances are, they need all the help they can get because Americans have no taste. Let us all remember (and have a moment of silence) for Arrested Development which even blatant product placement could not save from Fox's hatchet men.

Did last night's show stink or what? Just not as funny.
LazyAsSin
It was a little uneven, but Michael scaring everyone straight and "The Rainbow Connection" killed me!

I watched it again this afternoon, and realized that it was written by Ricky Gervais--the main guy from the British version--instead BJ Ryan, Mindy Kaling, and the other guy who normally writes the shows. Realizing this, it was easy to recognize the different tone--it was quite a bit more aggressive than what I think we are used to. Michael didn't have his redeeming qualities, and the inter-office dynamics weren't the same. Anyway, can you tell I don't like the British version and am blaming Ricky Gervais for corrupting the US version?

I threw a little party when I heard this

(Posted from the desk of Pam Beesley)
This week we are shooting with hot shot director Joss Whedon! This has been especially exciting for me because I already knew Joss. (He has known my husband for a long time.) Joss has quickly become one of our favorite directors. The crew loves him. He's a huge fan of the show and therefore gets really into every detail of the show. He watches us even when we are in the background of a scene and compliments our smallest of choices. It's been a total dream. I'm currently the background of a scene and I can see him hunched over the monitors watching a scene and giggling like a little girl. I'm going to miss him.

Last week's episode - Phyllis' wedding - was one of the best this season. I personally liked the line, "Do you take Bob Vance of 'Bob Vance Refrigeration'...?" I just recently found out Creed is that actor's real name, and he is parodying himself on the show. The swapping the card on the gift was classic.
LazyAsSin
Roy is seriously going to kill Jim. I don't think I've seen a scarier moment on a sit-com!!
LazyAsSin
I honestly believe that last night's season finale was the most satisfying hour of television that I've ever experienced. So many story lines, so many interesting developments, so much originality. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.

there were parts i loved. there were parts that i didn't love. overall, i was (and i hate to say this) kinda disappointed.

-- wouldn't jan know she was losing her job before they started the hiring process?
-- no one would ever have 3 people from the same office lined up for interviews at the same time (would they?)
-- personally, i think jim is being a jerk for leaving karen in nyc. and going on a date with another woman? ugh.

so... disappointed. still excited, but slightly annoyed. sad.gif
pico de gallo
Last night's show was funny, but I was also disappointed.

I feel the show is getting away from itself. The entire program has been around the eccentricities of the characters. Some of the characters are emerging into their own, especially Stanley. But the others are going through "soap opera" -type changes. I am finding it annoying; miles away from Season One. I have no idea how they could include the corporate office and not have Todd Packer make an appearance. I think the Ryan part was lame.
bivester
but dwight is slowly becoming one of the best characters on tv.

i am a little mixed about las t night's show too. it was good, could have been better. the ending was interesting...

i'll be tuned in for the season opener, for sure.
pico de gallo
"What's the exchange rate of Schrute Bucks to Stanley Nickels?"

"Probably about the same as unicorns to leprechauns."

I know ya'll are talking about S:3, but I had to chime in as I'm almost finished watching S:2 on DVD.
This show is freaking hysterical. Absolutely freaking hysterical.
I love Dwight and I adore Rainn Wilson. Everything I've seen that guy in he just knocks it out of the park. Well, I haven't seen Last Mimzy, so ya never know... heh.

So yeah, anyway, The Office has been getting some of the best laughter out of me since I started watching Scrubs. Kudos.
pico de gallo
Kudos to you, Michelle, for catching up on the show. Hopefully you've also seen the short Season One. It's not as funny, but there are some parts referred back to in later shows.

And yes, this show is hysterical.
LazyAsSin
Season Three is out on DVD today!!
kab
the office is going to be on tbs starting tuesday, sept. 11. it will be on between 10-11 pm every tuesday, starting with episode 1 from season 1! yay!

oh yeah, ya'll are CRAZY. but in the best way imagineable. and to think i just sat there and watched the show... wink.gif
exciting episode, eh?

Anybody watch the season premiere? Nice that it was an hour. My favorite part was Michael insisting he had to drive into the lake because the "machine" said to turn right. Well, now that I'm thinking about it, that's second to Michael trying to get the gift basket back.

Poor Toby... sad.gif He's a one-man argument against working in HR.

That actually was the second episode, not the premier. The season premier had Michael striking Meredith with his car (thus the reason for the rental car with GPS in the second show), and then Michael put together a jogging fundraising event to "fight rabies." Classic episode.
LazyAsSin
You know, I was a little disapointed in this week's episode. The car into the lake was a riot, but in general it felt somewhat disjointed and without the magic that most episodes have had. I'm a little nervous that now that Jim and Pam are together, we've jumped the shark. *eyes closed and fingers crossed*

I'm actually relieved they have gotten together and come out of the closet about it. I thought that the will they/won't they was wearing very thin. I thought that Ryan being there sort of tied the episode together in a way.

i love it that jim and pam are now together and open about it. i missed last thursday's episode "money" (i was working late - a reception, nothing horrendous), so i watched it online on saturday. i "rewound" it twice to watch certain scenes again, including when jim went in and kissed pam after consoling dwight. i loved it! but call me a romantic. wink.gif

I loved that scene, too. smile.gif

I also loved Michael sitting in the train car singing "Runaway Train." And Dwight keening like a whale.
