I used to care about football.
Following the 1992 season, my alma mater (Cal State Fullerton) dropped their football program. In 1995, the NFL team I'd followed all along (the Rams) moved to St. Louis.
Now I don't care so much about the sport. I'd take hockey or soccer over it any day.

sadly, i find it now to be more of a pre-packaged tv show than a sport. college is more more interesting but, (imho) the NFL is boring, and for the most part, sucks.

Chalk me in the "simple 'no'" category.

Seriously, the preseason never works for me, and I usually need to see something cool (like a surprise team or breakout player) to get me to watch the NFL.

DA BEARS!!!!!.
Nothing like winning at Lambeau Field during the first week of the season. The Pack attack was on its back. Favre better learn how not to throw into coverage or he's gonna be packing his bags for Oakland.

Now might be the time to start giving Aaron Rodgers some game time. Brett Favre on the bench, that's a cheery thought.

Should we start betting on how many games until the Cowboys implode?

Yeah its hard to know if you are fulfilling the Concorde Fallacy or trying to get your money's worth. I thought the Bears should have cut bait with Rex "oh my ankle hurts" Grossman last year. He still worries me with his Favre like gunslinging sometimes.
I always thought Steve Young was my favorite Steve from that era. You could try him, except he can't take any more hits to his belfry. Trent Dilfer will probably be up for a job next year. Then there is always Kordell Stewart.
yojimbo
Sep 11 2006, 12:24 AM
Oh wait, I hear Gus Frerotte needs a job too. And Drew "Mr. Statue of Liberty" Henson. Plenty of quartbacks in the sea Fred.

I only laugh because we may be in a similar situation in a year or so if Grossly overpaid doesn't work out. Not to mention Fifty Million/Cedric Benson. Evidently he and Thomas Jones aren't getting along. Personally, i'd be fine with trading CBenson for some good draft picks and some cash myself, but the Bears aren't great wheeler dealers unfortunately. What is it about the Bears and running backs? They can never get more than one good one. I miss Sweetness

Yes, thanks for reminding me. Ugh. That followed the Rashaan "Mr. Fumble/I smoked too much doobie" Salaan. I'm very grateful that we have two good running backs and a very capable back up in Adrian Petersen. I'm just hoping that we can trade Fitty Million for some good draft picks. Like a wide receiver and some defensive secondary players maybe. Though that new kid from Abilene Christian made some good plays against Green Bay. Then again, Favre has gotten to be pretty predictable ie. Stand near the receivers and he'll throw to you, so who knows.
The Penn State rule is a pretty good one. I second that. Though I will point out that Kerry Collins has a Superbowl ring. Not that I'm defending him.

Sorry I misstated. He went to the Superbowl with the Giants.
Yeah Art Shell is probably wishing he stayed in the NFL front office. Bringing in Aaron Brooks, their offensive line, passing on Matt Leinart, bringing back a retired Jeff George. Yeah, Al Davis and his cronies know what they are doing. Somebody needs to buy his ace out and get this team back on track.
Who is going to be the worst team this year: the Raiders, Texans, or Buffalo?
You gotta wonder how many more hits Trent Green is going to take before he's joining Steve Young.

You missed out on one team there Jim.
The Green Bush Packers didn't look very good either. They really don't have much talent at all.
They coulda played the Raiders to 0-0 game very easily. And still be playing.
And Favre even said in training camp this was the best team he's been on- hahaha!

Oh yeah I forgot about the Packers. Yeah they looked pretty awful. What amazes me is that no one is saying "Hey Favre is forcing things, he needs to adjust." They keep blaming the other people on the team. I can't believe that they aren't working Aaron Rodgers in. Then again, it works out good for the Bears. Hehe.
Yeah Favre contradicted himself yesterday when he said "Yeah we aint a real good team". Are you or aren't you Brett? I almost wonder whether he's playing just for the paycheck. That's pretty sad if he is. He's robbing the citizens of Green Bay, if they still own the team. I haven't seen that many interceptions since, well oh wait, Drew Bledsoe.

it is in part Favre- the minute he gets pressured, he just throws it, but he has no talent to help him, maybe Driver, Green and Franks and thats about it.
and he has no OL to protect him, and they are employing their new cheese defense this year-

I know the Chiefs' record isn't any better, but at least they are showing signs of life after losing their starting QB...
However, I want my money back as well as all the rest of the Detroit fans since Roy Williams guaranteed the win. The only thing more stupid than guaranteeing a win would be to say how stupid it is that we amost scored 40 points last week when your team only scored 6. I guess basic mathematical skills are not required to play football... However, I'm thinking that his IQ probably falls within the 6-40 range which would explain a lot!
And the only thing making this football season even slightly interesting at this point to a Chiefs fan is the fact that the Raiders are pitiful. How do you commit 6 turnovers and drop a safety in the same game? Not to mention 6 sacks???? Maybe Moss hooked them up before the game...

OK, so the Chargers are now 2-0 and off to a decent start. But, I grew up out here and I know putting hope in them is like being a fan from Boston.
But here is a reason why the NFL drives me crazy. Why on earth would the Titans sign Kerry Collins? The man has a shoddy career, with the exception when the Giants got to the Super Bowl. But he's been terrible ever since. I imagine the Titans office had a conversation like, "Well let's see... Collins blew it with the Giants and then the Raiders and we need a bonehead to take McNair's place... and we're spending a mint on Vince Young, so let's go ahead and sign Collins!" I'm sorry, but Kerry Collins should have been home eating Pringles like the rest of us. He sucks in the NFL, but go ahead and keep trading him. He's like the new Jeff George.

Sep 18 2006, 02:17 AM
Well with the expansion you could argue that there is diluted talent for one. Though the most interesting argument I've heard lately is more of a financial one, that a lot of teams can't afford to pay their 2nd string quarterback a lot of money. So maybe KCollins got it because he was the cheapest guy that was available. They also overestimated how well Billy Volek was going to pick up the system. Its been rumored that he doesn't/hasn't studied the plays as well and hasn't picked up on them. Either way, the Titan fans have gotta be wondering why they didn't pay Steve McNair. He could have developed Young for a while and they could have had a decent season. Go figure.
