Full Version: California Guitar Trio Lexington, KY 10-AUG-06

2-CD set. Some noise from the banks of overhead fans over both bars is present between songs, but the music sounds great. Several covers, including a surf guitar version of Beethoven's Fifth (first mvmt) and a reggae-ish humorous take on Freebird as an encore. Good stuff--I love these guys.

If anyone's interested, I'm willing to do a B&P for the original 24-bit/48k format (CD is 16-bit, 44.1k). This would require one blank DVD, which I would burn and send back to you as a playable disc. A couple of rudimentary and non-essential menus are included, but is fully functional without a TV. Should play in nearly all DVD players. I'd only bother with this if you have the gear to take advantage of the higher resolution.

I listened to some of this show on the way to work this morning. These guys are truly brilliant! Not just incredible musicians, but their arrangements are amazing. I really wish Beethoven could have heard their astonishing arrangement of the 9th Symphony finale. (I wish he could have heard his own arrangement too, for that matter). Can't wait to hear what they do with the 5th!

Sensational sound as usual Shawn, thanks! smile.gif

I'm glad you're enjoying it, Keith. While the surf-ish take on Beethoven's 5th is an interesting idea, I'm not sure it's completely successful. It may just need more time to develop . . . The new Freebird arrangement works pretty well, though, I think. The Beethoven 9 is really impressive, but I think my favorites of that show are some of the originals--Skyline, The Marsh, and Punta Patri, especially. Paul commented to me afterwards that they extended some of the tunes much more than usual that night, so some of the improvisational sections (in Whitewater and Cosmo Calypso, for example) are kinda on the long side, but it's interesting.

Stiv--it was almost literally a last minute decision to go, as we were supposed to so something with my in-laws that night, but it got cancelled, so I had just enough time to make it down there. Didn't even get to eat until after the show. Definitely check them out when they're back in the area, though.
