Lemony Snicket!

yay! though i havent chosen books over food in a while, i love the feeling.

i am dying to get lemony snicket.

I hope I don't get too addicted to Lemony Snicket. There are far too many of the books, all in hardcover.

Still waiting for The Eternity Code (book three of the Artemis Fowl trilogy) to come out in paperback.

I'm happy I've finally managed to get a hold of The Catcher in the Rye. I've long felt excluded from the board's Salinger circle. smile.gif

What I've been thinking of doing is going to my local bookstore and buying several Catcher in the Rye editions to go along with my Almanac purchase. There's nothing quite like showing up on the Homeland Security monitors.

I think that's the best Pinocchio reference I've ever seen. Well done. smile.gif

Comedic actors who make each other laugh onstage and have to contain themselves to finish the scene. I love watching people try to carry on after onstage bloopers.

Real wine instead of grape juice (the Baptist standard) at communion. I went to an Episcopal church for a Maundy Thursday service, and I realized we juice-drinkers have been missing out. There's something about the way the wine burns on the way down that conveys the reality of divine inspiration in a form more tangible than the sensation of lukewarm juice.

(Edited to correct a mistype of Maundy Thursday. "Maudy" Thursday sounds like someone in a Flannery O'Connor story.)

I agree, on all points.
Especially the little notes.
Do you save them in a scrapbook?
d.
i save everything. i am a packrat of the worst kind: a sentimental one.

i keep them for making artists' books:

This is a magazine I heard about through Linford, actually in a talk he and Karin were giving on writing at a songsmith seminar. The conference (originally offered by Zayne) can be downloaded from this link.

Memories of eating lunch at one of those family style diners in college, the ones we would hold up an empty bowl for a refill of potatoes or beans. It seemed they were always playing Aqualung around lunch time, so, when I heard that song on the radio a few minutes ago, I was hungry. (Surely that is an odd word association: Jethro Tull and potatoes. And I have now gone 10 days without posting in the word association threads.)

I love shopping at the DeKalb (that's DEEEEEkalb in Southern) Farmer's Market. Such a huge variety of everything: veggies, fruits, breads (no preservatives, baked on sight), fresh fish, excellent butcher shop, flowers (I like to take my mom flowers), spices, cereals, wines, beers, well, you name it. I also love the diversity of people that shop there, from all walks of life and all nationalities. The cashiers are mostly from international locations, on on their nametag under their name will list their country and the languages they speak. I started taking Mollie (my iPod), with me and love to listen to OtR or IM or classical while I shop. But I hate the regular grocery stores.
Trudes
Russ,
I have never heard of DeKalb's but it sounds wonderful.
You reminded me of our 'Whole Foods' markets in CO. I believe they are in other parts of the country, too. Natural, organic foods and products for healthy living (shampoos, lotions, etc) Fresh bakery, produce, flowers, bulk grains, free-range meats, etc.
I love to wander around that store. It smells so good.

We have Whole Foods here, too, but none of them are too convenient for me. When I am near one, I always find something I need to have. I did find some spiced soy milk at one that is unreal!
The DeKalb Farmer's Market is in DeKalb county, a locally owned joint.
FloridaGirl
We've got a Whole Foods down here, and two of my friends work there. Visiting them is a nice excuse for browsing the store. smile.gif

A fellow came by just now who looks a lot like the blue-eyed guy who had me tongue-tied last spring. He has the same smile and the same ears and the same glasses, but --get this-- he has a ponytail! How cool is that?

(This is funny, because usually being boy-crazy is not one of my favorite things. smile.gif)

I agree, Becky. But for me it's more that I haven't seen a boy who made me properly crazy 'round this over-sized rock in quite some time. Suppose I could clean my glasses once in a while and look again but, oh, the energy that would take...

Things that may us feel so good inside...like a breath of fresh air or a warm blanket on a chilly night.....

* the sound of rain hitting the street as miles davis plays in the background
* telephone calls from my niece
* a friend asking to pray together
* laughing with friends
* long walks under a beautiful full moon
* a well blended margarita
* the peace of home after a hectic day
* the sound of my guitar when it's really in tune
* lenny kravitz's belly (yeah even with the once scary belly button)
* linen fresh from the dryer

that's enough for now,

From what I hear, we have a big nasty one heading our way. Bad thing is, my windows are up and my attic fan is on. Hope I don't get home to a waterbed.
