Full Version: The Loft on XM Session

I don't see this posted here yet, but it's on the tour dates page of the main site:

XM Radio 50 Loft Session Led by pianist Linford Detweiler and vocalist Karin Berquist, Ohio-based four-piece Over the Rhine bemused us for nearly an hour with their seductive brand of “post-nuclear, pseudo-alternative, folk-tinged art-pop, ” including lots from the recent CD Drunkard’s Prayer. Mercy!
Mon Aug 14, 12:00 noon and 9:00 pm (all times Eastern)
Thu Aug 17, 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm
Sat Aug 19, 4:00 am and 7:00 pm

Apparently it steams on the Internet, too biggrin.gif : http://www.xmradio.com/programming/xm_feat...h=50&id=427

does that mean even non-xm subscribers can listen?

if i clicked the link before i typed, i wouldn't have needed to ask the question. blink.gif

no, you cannot listen without being a subscriber, officially.
there is a 3-day free trial though, and a 30-day free trial if you recently bought a dell pc.

“post-nuclear, pseudo-alternative, folk-tinged art-pop”
am I the only one who feels that their continued use of this moniker is simply "incorrect"...?

shouldn't it be more like "post-Ric (and Films for Radio as the only post-Ric exception), we're really just folk-tinged art-country"...?

The "labeling / bucketization" of music is simply silly anyway (for the most part), but whatever...

feisty,

True. It's definitely more alt-country than anything else lately. I like it, but I would also welcome a shift back to "folk-tinged art-pop" on the next record. smile.gif

Maybe someone with XM can capture this and seed it somewhere? I've seen a lot of other XM specials going around on the torrent sites.

Thanks for checking on that kelly. I think I'll take my three day trial during that week...

Yes, it should say streams in the first post, but if I fix it, then kelly's response won't make much sense, so I'll leave it. tongue.gif

Dude... right there with you. The direction on the last two studio albums has me less than floored...

PS- yo, Steve, you gonna be in the general area of The Vic tonight? smile.gif Even though I'll likely opt for early to bed so I can get back home sooner, I may give your cell a ring-a-ling...
WalrusOct9
Damn, I didn't see your post until this morning. Hope the show was good. smile.gif

I liked it...but I think it's time to explore something a little different.

Count me in on the "ready for a little more rock" crowd. Not that I didn't like Ohio or Drunkard's Prayer, but I'm ready for them to pull out the Rickenbacker and Vox amps again.

I think that's why I'm liking "On A Roll" & "Entertaining Thoughts" so much. I hope they'll retain their energy when they're recorded.

I signed up for the 3-day trial last evening and caught the 9 p.m. performance. Very nice, but nothing we haven't heard in the last couple of months. And, zayne, Linford even talked about the blind man and the kid who had the request for his algebra test. biggrin.gif But since Rick & Devon were there, they did get to rock a little bit (I'm On A Roll, Entertaining Thoughts, Lookin' Forward) and they closed with one of my favorite combos, "The Seahorse/Summertime."

So, did anyone happen to record the XM show? I have XM radio and was going to record it thursday but did not get the chance.

Hopefully someone recorded it and will start a vine perhaps? unsure.gif
