Full Version: Graphic novels and Magna

I can't remember if anyone started a thread on this subject or not, and I am too lazy to look.

Anyways, I know I am not the only Graphic Novel and Magna fan here, so, which ones do you like? And which ones do you hate?

Right now I am trying to get caught up on the Fables series (thank God the library has these!!!). I just finished volume 5, and WOW! Such an interesting concept. Who would have thought that Boy blue would room with a perpetually young Pinocchio, not to mention his romance with Little Red Riding hood. Makes sense though, red girl, blue boy.
The whole general amnesty thing really throws me for a loop as well. "Bad Guys" such as the big bad wolf, Bluebeard, a lot of the witches...all instrumental in the fables community (although, Bluebeard was always into it for the money).
And, really classy about Prince Charming! Marrying and divorcing Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, AND Cinderella! Guess they didn't live happily ever after.

As far as Magna goes, Ghost in the Shell! Amazing, and so much better than the movies. Granted, the movies were good, but theydo so much more in the Magna. Cannot wait for 1.5 to come out.

Okay - I'll bite. I know next-to-nothing about graphic novels (I do know that I liked the movie A History of Violence that was based on the GN of the same name). Please tell me more about the Fables. Where would I find them in my public library? Is there an author? And, what the heck is Magna?

Thanks!

i don't know anything about it except it is MANGA, and you can find a manga (pronouced mahn - ga) section by the role playing books and stuff at barnes and nobles.

my brother likes them, but you have to read them back to front, which i wouldn't be able to do. smile.gif
d.
these, for me, are the highlights:

sandman stories were great (gaiman) but the covers were amazing (dave mckean).
