Not far from where I live in Dayton--there is one of those nice locally owned place that sells flowers, produce, and in the fall has lots of events going on----at this time of the year--their crop of sunflowers matures--they grown several acres of them--and it is a favorite spot for people to take lots of pictures--I took some last year and could not resist stopping to take just a few this summer.

I took these photos midday during a bright sunny day----now that the sun's angle is getting sharper and we are heading towards autumn--a favorite time of the year and a great time to take photos thanks to the qualty of the light--I need to take some photos out there in the evening or early morning.

I've been toying with writing something around this line for about 3-4 weeks now. So far, it's simply a bunch of words saved to a Word document. I'm thinking that something will mesh sometime. For the time being, they seem to fit with this funky photo. It's an out-of-focus photo of my sunglasses which were laying on my car seat earlier today. The small round circle is the sun reflecting off the lens. All I did was to crop the photo and then play around with tones and colors in the Olympus software that came with the digi. The text and image was added in Picnik.

The Exuberance of a Scream

If you want to know a little more about the story behind the words. Earlier this summer I was driving to the park and saw a young girl on her bicycle riding on the sidewalk. She was flying, and her blonde hair was streaming out behind her. Her mouth was wide open and she was simply screaming for the sake of screaming. I remember screaming that way myself, and it made me think of how exhilarating it was. Thus, "the exuberance of a scream" was born.

Here is another place to post photos and possibly have them published in a new photo centered magazine called JPG. You can also write stories relating to photography in some fashion--which in turn--might also be published in the print magazine as well.

Okay - so I don't want to shoot senior portraits OR wedding photos, but what to do when the daughter of my business associate asks me to shoot hers? She's not comfortable posing for photos, and I'm not comfortable shooting portraits, so I told her that it would either be a good morning or a bad one. Together, somehow, we made a little magic today.

I think she and her parents will be happy. I know I am!

I do wish she had looked up at the camera from this position. That would have made a gorgeous part 2 for this shot.

Nice job on the photos of the young lady Coldtea----they came out fine--I am sure she and her family will like them and are pleased with the results.

Well--hard to believe it---but on the lake here in Ohio I spend much time---Summer 2008 "officially came to a close" last night with something like the 20th year of a tradition on this lake (am not quite sure how it started) but it is a fun and interesting one called "The Ring of Fire."

All around the 30 mile shoreline of the lake--at approximately 9 pm on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend---people light off 30 minute railroad flares. It is very pretty to go out and see most of the shoreline of the lake aglow with the red light put out by the flares.

It might not be the WEBN fireworks down on the river in Cincy--but it is a nice way to say goodbye to summer-at least the summer season here on the lake.

Here are some photos of our little part of the lake from last night when we and our neighbors here on "Dunn's Pond" were burning our flares.

MIchael - first, thanks for your words; they mean a lot. Your 'ring of fire' shots are indeed lovely ... an almost paganish (and I mean that in a most respectful way) farewell to the summer season.

Very nice pics!

Speaking of Senior pictures, our best friends have a 15 year old daughter that started living life with a camera around her neck. For her birthday, they purchased her a Nikon 40D. She got her first real gig this week and nailed it. A friend of hers, asked her to take his Senior pictures. His parents agreed. Some how, they ended up in an older part of town where a couple of trains passed by purely by coincidence. She snapped some amazing pics of her subject standing in front of a moving train. There's graffiti on the car and it frames him perfectly. Upon presenting the pics, the parents wanted to buy them all, but she was photoshoping them and didn't have time to do all of them so they agreed to a 13 picture package deal. I'll try to get a couple of the pics to post.

Good on her! Please do! I'd love to see them.

We're doing the rest of the shoot this weekend. This one will be with a friends black & chrome motorcycle, and her in a Marilyn Monroe-type dress (the white one over the heating grate). I'm thinking of using an abandoned roller rink (outside) as the backdrop. Then I think we'll move to the bandstand at the city park for a few while we're at it ... if she's comfortable with the thought.

Oh, and THEY all LOVE the photos so far!!!
